I only look forward to Christina, Katy, Ari and The Weeknd's performances

I also look forward to Katy hosting

What could Ari possibly perform, though?...

Also... why is it Christina rumored to get this?... she only has like 5 iconic videos

I doubt collabs count lmao

AG4 Has been done for months. If she performs (which it'd have to be via satellite, since she has Chinese tour dates the day before and after the VMAs), it'd most likely be the lead single from AG4.

Hmm... that sounds pretty bad for a lead single debut...

Yeah, I think it's just a rumor.

I like Ari and I know she wants to look super chill and all but her show is beyond uneventful.

she should close with Side to side and lighting doesn't make it up for the lack of props 😦

She should include the bunny ears and a problem-esque outfit given she has barely iconic material. I like that her most iconic video Side to side informed the show a little

I think it's... too minimal

even in the My everything era she served visuals that were on point like the cute pink clouds in one last time, the diamonds glistening in love me harder or the lasers in all my love

i would still love to go tho

When u say that, I agree. The tour could've used some of that stuff but I was still slayed. Her vocals and performance ability really made up for it. Her DW album was so good that I could just watch her perform the songs with minimal props and still be slayed. She has great material and performed it really well.

Katy…………Is she going to steal the show?

I think Kesha is going to steal the show. She's gonna perform Praying with a choir, a full orchestra and inspirational video on the backdrop.

i keep posting the same freaking performance of her on NNN awards for like 3 years now. she is so much better when she performs a ballad. i hope she slays.

Really hoping Pink is performing! Her single is out August 10th and she's performed the lead single for the past two albums at the VMAs, so here's hoping it happens.

She's off from her tour for a week before the VMAs, so I have a feeling it could be happening.

Again, these performers are just rumored. MTV did use them in their billboards and it is extremely weird if they just did that for their noms, but still just throwing that disclaimer.

Shocked to see not one nomination for Lana. She created 2 gorgeous videos for her album thus far. And she prides herself on being a cinematic storyteller with her videos. And I know John Wayne wasn't a big hit but it was the video she released just after the SB and it is a great video. Million Reasons went to #4 and it gets nothing. It's not because it's 'boring,' it's because these shows only want to big up the hugest successes and the newest names. If you're in the middle, like Lana and Gaga are, you don't get a look-in. Melanie Martinez also had a great video for Mrs Potato Head that has 38 million views and over 1 million likes (and she has 5.1 million subscribers) despite her basically indie status, but because she's not the sort of person that the show wants to big up, she won't get nominated. Then again, they'll nominate Alessia Cara for a video with just 54 million views and barely 900k likes (its been up for a year) who only has 1.7 million YouTube subscribers. There's also a super PC slant to these award shows now. There was so much controversy over lack of black artist nominations to the point where now it seems like there's a quota in place. It doesn't matter how boring or bad your video is, it doesn't even need to be a chart hit, you just have to be a relevant black artist and you can get a nomination. Sorry, that isn't the equality I had in mind. I want the best videos to be nominated regardless of what your race is or what the message is.

It's so sad what this award show has become. It used to be the most important moment of pop culture every year. So many iconic moments of music happened during the show: Madonna's Like A Virgin performance, the kiss with Britney, the meat dress, just to name a few.

Nowadays, I don't even know the videos that are nominated. I don't even know most of the artists that are nominated. I literally know, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and SZA. That said, I haven't even seen those videos. In general, it's sad that music videos are losing their importance, back in the 80s, 90s and 00s music videos were so great and important. Like even though you weren't a fan of music, you knew videos like Like a Virgin or Californication. You just knew them.

I know what you mean. Those videos that were nominated back then are still remembered to this day. I still remember those songs. But the stuff that's nominated today...I do know it, apart from maybe some of the more obscure hip hop (I haven't listened to any of these new urban acts nominated in Best New Artist) but I don't think I'll remember it in the future. The 2010 show was huge and those nominations are still relevant today but most of the stuff now will be lucky if it's remembered 2 years from now. YouTube views and likes mean something different in today's world, big numbers don't mean much now, so it's pointless to just nominate the biggest videos. They're so boring now that we'll struggle to remember the song they were attached to. Getting big views and likes now all depends on having a very young fanbase who will religiously watch your videos on repeat and hit the like and subscribe button. If you have an older fanbase, that's just not a thing, so you don't get a chance to get your work noticed. Gaga's views and likes are good but they'd be so much better if she had started out in this current generation and had a massive gang of young fans. It's sad when you see massive videos in pop culture from Britney and Madonna, for example, not even have 100 million views today because they were released pre-YouTube and are only getting views and likes from their (very small) current fanbase and the occasional person who feels nostalgic.
