Mr S 8,672
Its normal after 3-4 albums. At that point you're no longer the hot young commodity. It is then where you either take the legend/icon route or has been route. Usually talent are something special brings you to legend route. Beyonce was at a similar place when she released "4". But she has a great team around her, the pregnancy happened, she did Superbowl where everyone saw her performance skills and she is on her way to legend status. Gaga is KIND OF following that. Hopefull "A Star is Born" is a hit, either critically or commercially.
RAMROD 109,274
Nah man. Ageism only happen to women in showbiz when they're hit 50 and up, but most likely radio just not into those kinds of sounds Madonna's still find success in her 40s with Ray of Light (40), and COTDF (47) And Cher with Believe when she was 52 (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘢, 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

DeleteMyAccount 11,881
No it's because they're releasing songs like Perfect Illusion and Swish Swish. They're not terrible songs, but it shouldn't be that big of surprise that Gaga and Katy aren't doing as well chart wise compared to a few years ago. But age can definitely be a factor. However, Gaga has been lucky enough to maintain an older crowd of fans in addition to her younger fans. That was due to the help of C2C and her reinvention from 2014-2016. I remember at the artrave that there were a lot of older fans(middle age). I was very surprised. Again, Gaga is lucky to have that. Not all artists, like Katy, can achieve a wide fanbase. It's just hard for artists like Gaga and Katy to maintain fanbases.
Born To Slay 10,996
Gaga's music wasn't radio friendly at all this era. Her music videos for her singles were awful this era. As The Cure has proven, all she needs to do is release a radio friendly single and she'd succeed. The Cure had no m/v and no promo at all yet still had longevity and became a moderate hit. Imagine if it had a gr8 m/v and solid promo. It would've been a legit hit. Britney wasn't successful because while she did some promo, it was poorly planned. Make Me wasn't successful because it wasn't performed anywhere in its first 7 weeks and the m/v is her worst to date. If she released the original m/v and did some promo (both in terms of performances and streaming promo), Make Me would've been a hit. It had the signs of becoming a hit but it was left to die. Gaga and Britney's refusal to promote is costing them. They could get hits if they wanted too but they seem to feel they're above it. Which is a bad move. Especially for Gaga. dit 46,417
Gaga was still young when she started underperforming. It's just her music did not click with the masses anymore. As for KAty. She stayed succesfull through out her entire twenties and only started losing success when her personality started getting more exposure then her music. She is seen as annoying and her image change did not help. Also Witness is sonically different from TD & Prism. TD and PRISM were very bubble gum pop. Thought Witness is not some mature eye opening album it is more electronic and synth based and speaks of more "adult" topics so she departed from what worked for her. This is why she is flopping. I can guarantee you that had Katy kept her TD & PRISM look and sound perfectly in tact she'd still have pretty major success. I do believe that radio support becomes complicated as you age for sure but we can't keep blaming other reasons for why Gaga has underperfomed on stuff like this. She just under performed because the music did not click with the GP and a lack of proper management.
