Yes we stay out of their business. Because the more we try to force our ideals on them the more they are gonna hate us. What happens when they hate us more? When you visit a country, you need to respect their laws. As simple as that. It doesn't matter if you think their laws are bad or sexist, homophobic or anything; they're still their law. They won't change it just because of some western tourists. 

Now what happens if you choose to ignore the law? You will likely be fined or even arrested. You will have to live with the consequences of your actions. How entitled do you have to be to think that just because you are from the west, these laws won't apply to you?!

Like when I know that a country stones gays to death because homosexuality is illegal there, I sure as hell won't travel there with my boyfriend. Sure, it's wrong to kill people because they're gay, but it's law there. 

I don't understand how so many people can't grasp this simple concept. You can't break their laws and expect not to be punished for that!

Yes it's actually their culture. A lot of people there agree with it. They don't need to change their law just because you/we think they should.

Yeah from our perspective it seems bad. But from their perspective our western culture seems just as bad. A lot of the women there think western women are sl**s for walking around in skirts and shirts. Who gives you/us the moral higher ground to judge them about what they think is right?! I mean she's disobeying their laws so of course she's gonna cause outrage, get arrested and possibly murdered and I'm sure she knew that herself. A sad fact of life is laws in the east aren't going to change just because those of us in the west don't like it, and sadly there's nothing we can do about it because both sides (us and them) think we have the right opinion so it's never gonna be resolved.

Of course I don't agree with a lot of things they do but it does not surprise me because it's obvious, hopefully they'll find more liberal leadership someday but it certainly won't be in ours or our children's maybe even grandchildren's lifetimes.

Also, I would like to state to some in this thread that "they must abide by our laws" isn't really an excuse (and I've explained this to my parents when they say Muslims from other countries "disrespect" and break our laws) because in the majority of the west it's not illegal to wear religious garments anywhere and we have the freedom of religion where you can build your own temple for your religious beliefs as long as you have building permission (which in the uk is controversial since most middle class/working class people seem to think we have some law against non Christian beliefs in our country )

Okay she's from Saudi Arabia. She still broke the law and got arrested for it. I don't see how that fact changes anything. My point still stands that you can't break a law because you think it's wrong, and expect not to be punished for it. 

Now to the other point: Please read before making assumptions. Where have I said anything about my personal opinion on these laws? I think it's wrong to kill gays or to treat women like objects. But that is my opinion. Just because I think it's wrong doesn't mean that the countries with said laws are obligated to change them. We can encourage them to, but as long as their society thinks these laws are correct, then who are we to judge? Just like we think that they're wrong, they think that we are.

well, you are completely okay with countries murdering gay people according to your logic.

Human rights are nothing that needs to be debated about. They are universal and yes, you are allowed to judge and speak against countries who break them.

According to your logic the Holocaust is also completely justified.

Did you read my post at all?! Like how far do you have to reach to get from my post to saying the Holocaust was justified?!   I literally wrote that I think it's not okay. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL 

Anyway, I agree that we can criticize them for these laws. But like I said, just because we're criticizing laws of Saudi Arabia doesn't mean that they're going to change them, because the majority of these people think that these laws are correct. 

In the end they need to figure these issues out themselves. The status of women needs to change from within their society and we can't force that. I think this arrogance of We're right and you're wrong and your society is sh*t and needs to change to our values does more harm than good.

So we just accept that woman are being totally oppressed there? No. we can spread awareness of what woman going through and put sanctions on those countries and offer refugee for LGBTIQ and fro woman of those countries.

There are no sanctions like these against Saudi Arabia. And if there were, the normal people living there would suffer from it, not the wealthy government that puts these laws in place. So in the end they would probably despise the West and our culture even more for trying to force our way of life on them. Why? Because you can't force a societal change from the outside, especially in that situation. 

But let's be honest here: Yes, we actually just accept these things. I think everybody on here and in the western society generally knows how women are treated in countries like Saudi Arabia. So making posts about it on a fansite will change absolutely nothing for the women in said countries, honey
