I feel like he doesn't even know what he's talking about. Based on what I've seen, I think he means that he's attracted to more feminine guys rather than masculine guys. Black guys are stereotypically very "masculine," so I think that's why he's saying this. A lot of the white guys he's been associated with are more stereotypically "feminine." For example, Austin Feinstein, who appears to be white, appeared in Tyler's music video for Perfect:

(still from the video at the link)

I think it's sad that he'd push these stereotypes, and I could also be totally wrong about this situation. Sorry if I'm reading into something that isn't there. I'd also like to clarify that I am black, because I feel that it's relevant to this conversation.

@Lanius Thoughts?

Sad he said that lol it sounds like self-hate a lil (how you gonna love yourself but would never date someone of your own race...)

and what about other races boo? sad!!

(but omg just watched the video before making my other races comment to make sure he didn't mention that, and he's so fine )

There is nothing wrong with expressing a preference.

"I like Spanish girls" is acceptable. This is no different. SJWs need to sit the hell down.

What's the alternative? Lie? Is that better? Or perhaps in the name of equality you'd like him to sleep with someone he isn't attracted to in order to prove he isn't racist? Hm isn't that a bit like rape?

Get a grip.

I think the way he said it implied that he was just messing around. Tyler has always been a bit off the wall. Just listen to one of his albums, they're sheer madness. But joke or not, he's putting a dangerous message out there. It's all very well to have preferences but to outright close yourself off from entire groups of people is very close-minded and insulting to people from that group. And it's not just race, it's any type of look because I've suffered people saying outright that they wouldn't date someone with red hair and it makes me feel like s**t, honestly, particularly because I've never dated anyone. It makes me feel like there's no hope when there's still such close-minded people like that out there who are still so against people like me. It would help to say something like "I've never been attracted to a _____ person before but so saying, there might be a really attractive ______ person out there and if we met and got along, I could happily date them and fall in love with them." That's displaying the open-mindedness to say that there are exceptions out there that might change your mind. But saying that there's no one that you make an exception for, as if you've encountered every single person in that race to make that judgement, is very problematic and is likely masking some serious judgement. I've never met anyone who's claimed to just have any kind of specific preferences that didn't have a bad aura radiating off them. We're all beautiful. Why some people want to limit themselves to only seeing the beauty in one type of person really upsets me.

You're sexual attraction is not static. You aren't born being only attracted to a specfic race. Sexual attractions are shaped by your surrounding, family members and the media. I've known people who said they would never date a black/Asian person before, than these people moved to a more diverse area, started interacting with them more often and they suddenly started to see the beauty in these people and never understood why the crossed them off in the first.place.

That is very true. It's the same with everything else in life - exposure brings education. Visibility can really open your eyes and make you realise how many more options are out there. Because I grew up not surrounded by people of other races, I had a very limited variety of people to find attractive and was only seeing one set look from each race. And if you don't find that attractive, it would be all too easy to completely write off the entire race. But now that there's so many more around, you start thinking that there are lots of gorgeous looking ones out there with all different looks that appeal to you. Not everyone in every race has the same traditional features associated with that race, not to mention, attraction is based on something biological, we pick up attraction through smell (which we aren't even aware of) that pulls us to people whose genes compliment ours. This explains why we're sometimes attracted to people yet we don't quite know why because they're not our usual type or aren't even traditionally attractive. To just limit ourselves to a very specific type is so weird and I don't know about everyone else but some of us have no luck as it is, the last thing we should do is cut ourselves off from entire groups! At least I know that being too picky isn't the reason behind my bad luck.

I don't understand why people have such an issue with someone who says they aren't attracted to people of a certain race?! People can't help who they are attracted to!!! :wtf: It doesn't make a person racist to say they wouldn't date someone of a certain race because of a lack of attraction. I don't see this as any different than a gay man stating that he wouldn't date a woman. This doesn't make him sexist. He still values and respects women and sees them as equals and probably has female friends, but would just not want to date one because of lack of sexual attraction.

As long as you still respect a race and view them as your equal, you are not racist.

There is a massive difference. Gender is a biological difference and there is a real feeling of aversion towards the genitalia that we are not attracted to within most of us. Most of us don't like the thought of being close to said genitalia in any form and this is very different from just not being attracted to a person. You might not want to date them but you wouldn't feel repulsed in their presence nor would you rule out so much as friendship with them. Very different. You're equating the wrong things here. If you truly respected all races and saw them as your equal, you'd be open-minded enough to realise that there may be exceptions to your tastes out there.

To me, a racist is someone that blatantly commits racist acts and says racist things, with a refusal to acknowledge their racism in light of substantial evidence to the contrary.

So yeah, a lot of this website :usrs:

Do you really think it's a big problem on this site? Let me know of any examples because I see very little of it. I think some people just make some inappropriate jokes that not everyone appreciates and maybe there's a bit of ignorance here and there. But I don't see this supposed high level of racism that apparently goes on. Unless you're maybe talking about the whole racial preference when it comes to gay dating, but even that I think isn't as bad on here as the stuff that I've heard that's actually said on some of these gay dating platforms.

Well, its easy to get bogged up on "is it really racist or not", so I like to divert to reliable sources; experts, people that personally experience it, measurements of effect and  social context surrounding the act, etc. People do racist things all of the time, I actually think thats a pretty objective statement, its just that people don't see many things as racism that are  Racism can be relatively inoffensive, it doesnt have to be major, but even microaggressions are based in racism. Like for example, racist jokes might not kill or physically harm minorities or whatever, but it doesn't make them not racist, and racism is still damaging at the least and we should recognize that imo rather than make excuses for how bad it could've been :emma:

I don't have a whole list of examples right now all of a sudden, and I'm not going to tag people in this exact thread or anything, but next time a thread like this comes along, I'll write them down if you really want :laughga:
