Because she keeps on repeating she wants to be herself, to be loved as she is, and not be considered as a freak, and this line destroys everything because she says she just wants to be another popular girl who has "lots of friends". Being invited to parties doesn't mean you have friends, these people are really not the ones who will stick with you and help you during hard times.
