Let us take a look on Lady Gaga's fifth studio album "Joanne" which was released 21st of October, 2016 by Interscope.

261 days after its release:

Metascore: 67  (reviewed by 27 critics)

Best Rating by "Pretty Much Amazing" :

"Back to reality, and full context, Joanne still represents a striking course correction for Lady Gaga. By abandoning the dance club for the dive bar, she may have tossed aside her status as a pop star once and for all. But Gaga has emerged as something better and truer. Stefani Germanotta is a theatrical rock goddess. And, baby, she was born that way. B PLUS"

Worst Rating by "The New York Times":

"Which is fair: The Chainsmokers don’t see dance music as avant-garde theater or sociopolitical provocation. They see it as quick-stepping pop, which, though it’s fuzzy in the rearview, is also part of Lady Gaga’s legacy. That they were allergic to “Perfect Illusion” makes sense. But instead of taking offense and tossing off a tweet, she should maybe give them a call."

User Score: 7.9 (2764 Ratings) Distrubition: 2131 positive / 126 mixed / 507 negative

"Wow......ok, so I did not expect that. I saw the reviews and thought this was gonna be pretty mediocre but there's something so fresh and different about this.

Like, I'm sorry, but this woman could've hired loads of writers to make her loads of hit current singles and instead she does this?

Balls. She has balls. I like balls."

Video reception on LadyGagaVevo:

Perfect Illusion: 101 Million

Million Reasons: 70 Million

John Wayne: 23 Million

SuperBowl 51: 5 Million

Charts:

A-Yo - Peak #66 - 1 Week

Non-Single in the Joanne era: The Cure - Peak #39 - 11 Weeks

What's with that New York Times review? Seems like it was written by a salty Chainsmokers stan who's offended by her funny tweet

Omg this era (without the SB performance ofcourse) would've her most forgettable era. Mediocre reviews. Mediocre sales. Bad streaming... She doesn't deserve this

Over.

It was a positive comment. He is saying that instead of focusing on making hit songs, she focused on making music with meaning.

Actually it is quite better than ARTPOP and way less controversial in terms of reception than Born This Way. Joanne seems to be a "good" album for most of the people but it isn't more than that.

The author seems to think he is an pop music reviewer but he mostly reviews Rap and Hip-Hop music, preferably from Tidal artists.

One would expect a more serious review from The New York Times. Guess anyone can work anywhere these days. Even a person who doesn't know how to write a proper review. :reductive:

The Joanne era slayed hard and no one can deny that.

Also, a lot of reviews were unfair because of the sound change so I wouldn't pay much attention to it.
