Eh, intersex people technically prove that sex isn't binary either and that factors like genitals, chromosomes, and secondary sex characteristics don't always align. This step is very exciting, though! I hope it spreads and becomes more standardized!

The actual question is, should we have sex or gender on licenses and other official documentations? Both seems excessive, and we should really be clear that sex and gender are different. Some documents ask for "Gender" and others ask for Sex, but theres no apparent reason for the distinction other than ignorance.

I would argue its more accurate to have gender, because sex at birth doesn't really have any inherent bearings on what your identify is, which is what is important and what should be measured. 

For example: Sex = Male on a license in fact would be counterproductive if its clear that you are a woman, and cause confusion.

We should just have penis, vagina, or indistinguishable then. Identity doesn't really mean much in the case of government

The problem is a circular system built on outdated notions of sex and gender.

I'd argue that what you identify as should be more important to government than an arbitrary label assigned to you by some doctors based on their own ideas of gender and the length and size of your genitalia  It's certainly more accurate. As it stands now, birth certificates can be inaccurate, which causes a lot of legal trouble for binary Trans people.

This is 100% delusional. I'm all for Transgender rights. But you are either biologically a male, a female, a male trapped in a female's body, or a female trapped in a males body, or a hermaphrodite. There is biologically and genetically no in-between. Stop trying to make up new genders that don't exist. They might in an androgynous music video fantasy, but not in reality.
