The other major issue is that Dems don't show up to vote in midterms. I didn't even get into voter suppression and how certain states use it in certain areas to suppress the vote. Obama was his own brand, but it probably ended up hurting the overall brand. I can bet Democrats are going to go back to the branding that worked. Yes, the Democratic party is the minority party now so they need to work hard to get these people to vote. I'm sure if the right leadership comes along it can be done. Being anti-Trump will only work for so long with a base that isn't as dumb as some of the Republican base.

The case is still a little dicey, however, as SCOTUS reserved the right to review standing and jurisdiction to decide if they are the right body to hear the issue (because it came directly from the lowest level state court in WI). A takeover in 2018? The likelihood of that happening is extremely slim. Something major will have to happen, like this healthcare bill. So far, it looks like they are trying to get around it by postponing most of the major changes to happen after 2018 and 2020. We will see what happens. If people really start to feel the impact of the gut of healthcare, they can make major changes. If it ends up screwing over the older people, they will show up and vote in block. They don't stay home and pout when their "fave" isn't on the ballot!

And I'm not trying to say that you can't support a third party. If you really agree with their side, by all means, then vote for them. My issue is that these parties and what they stand for will not change within the next election cycle. It's just not going to happen. Even looking back at our history, the fundmental principles of both the Republican and Democratic party have their alliances with the Anti-Federalists (no strong central govt) and Federalists (strong central govt). These two particular ideologies have been around for decades and it won't change within the course of the next four years. I have to ask, why do u think the Dems can't take back the house? They're overperforming in heavily red districts significantly. Wouldn't that give hope that they'll be able to win swing districts. According to this fascinating piece From the Washington Post, Democrats are on average outperforming by 8 points. Which they point would be enough to take 80 seats and while incumbency will prevent them from taking all 80 seats, we only need to take back 20 something seats to take back the house. It would seem that the house is very in play. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2017/06/21/dont-get-demoralized-by-the-big-georgia-loss-democrats/

My main problem with the Republican Party is that they actually really aren't small government/cutting spending. They want to spend as much money as the Democrats (just on different things). Maybe once the country finally goes under due to astronomical debt, Americans will finally realize that these two parties really aren't out for anyone's best interests. In regards to the Republican party, I never fully understand why they are so for "small government", I mean, doesn't "small government" mean that you, as a politican, would be less intrusive? That means less power, less money, etc. I don't know, that ideology never struck with me. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔞𝔴𝔞𝔶 𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔪𝔞𝔰𝔨 𝔞𝔫𝔡...𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔣𝔞𝔠𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔰 𝔪𝔦𝔫𝔢. Would a small government but into where people can put their genitals? Would it want to intervene everywhere on the ****ing planet? Would it pump billions and billions in waste in our defense budget? It wouldn't do any if those things but that's what the GOP wants.

I know gerrymandering has weakened us but it seems this Washington Post writer is fairly optimistic about our chances in 2018. He says with our current swing of 8 points on average, we'd be able to win 80 seats. We only need 24. It seems like we're in a good position to take the house back. thefamebitch 834
I think the democrats biggest problem is using Bernie Sanders to get their nonexistent message out. They continually give this guy airtime and he does a great job talking about his views, but the DNC themselves have no message cause they can't/ won't craft one. They can't get their message out because they keep propping him up as a champion/leader of a party he clearly does not want to be a part of.

I would simply say the Democrats are differently bad. Moreover, to say that Democrats and Republicans are very different would be an erroneous miscalculation. While I agree with virtually nothing Bernie stands for economically, I at least see that he has some sort of standard (morally) that he adheres to. Clinton and Trump?..... Not so much from the looks of it, they only came and went for the first 50 years while the last century and a half, democrat and republican have prevailed. yes they have changed their beliefs a lot over time but the same two parties have ruled over our country for the majority of its existence and i dont think any others will arise any time soon. the fear people have of going third, and possibly allowing the opposition win is too strong. these party's will have the lives of the american people in their hand and nobody wants to gamble with their healthcare or minimum wage by. i've always wanted the american voters to vote by principles rather than party allegiance or fear of the other party, but that is honestly too much to ask of most people. the fear of their polar opposite taking office is the reason this cant happen again. we need an overhaul in how we elect our leaders for a new party to ever establish itself. I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
