Lord Temptation

Joanne is a already a classic. The lyrics are raw, the storytelling is haunting, and the messages are loud and clear as the night sky.

Million Reasons alone is the anthem for our world today, in need of compassion and forgiveness.

Melodrama is good, but it's not nearly half as good as Pure Heroine. And it has no classic songs. In fact they all sound like one REALLLLLY long song.

Lorde is fine, but honestly, I feel like there's something missing with her songs. "You said you like the beach, you're such a damn liar" for example is a terrible lyric IMO. No one is perfect. Overall, I feel like it comes down to preference, and Lorde and Gaga seem like they're trying to achieve different goals and have different styles overall. I also think it's unfair that you're comparing a sexy pop song about self pleasure with something that's meant to be more introspective.

"She thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar" is a great line though.

Lorde’s ex cheated on her, but also lied about loving the beach to impress his new girlfriend, but Lorde knows he really doesn’t like it.

Followed by "Well those great whites, they have big teeth, hope they bite you" Lorde’s lover was unfaithful, causing her to fantasize about him getting bitten by a great white shark at the beach that he now claims to enjoy. It can also be a play on the idiom “white lies,” lies that don’t seem to hurt anybody. Her ex is lying that he loves the beach and she hopes that it “comes back to bite him” with his new lover.

She's also adds to that line later in the second verse "Sometimes I wake up in a different bedroom, I whisper things, the city sings 'em back to you". She wants her ex to find out about her recent acts, and how she wants her ex to feel what she felt when she got cheated on.

I haven't listened to Melodrama yet, so I won't comment on that, but I agree with your comment on Joanne.

Even if it might not be as mainstream or popular, the song's have really made an impression on those who actually took the time to listen to it, especially non-fans.

Comparing Gaga and Lorde is comparing an artist with a different set of colors on their palettes and with a different set of brushes. It was Gaga songs who brought up the conversation and it was also Gaga fans who are comparing their album sales so what's your point? Not a lot of Lorde fans are comparing Gaga's album sales because first of all her career started 3 years ago and never had that big of a fanbase either and Gaga fans are comparing them without knowing what they're talking about. So what's your point?

Im talking about the thread discussing who was a better songwriter, most were praising Lorde's lyrics while dragging Gaga for being too basic. So now that this thread is stating that Joanne has better sales suddenly it should no longer be a competition :classy:

Watching that Elders React to Gaga YouTube video made me realise how perfect Joanne was. When the cranky old guy complains that Gaga is too avant-garde and not romantic enough, and then when he hears Million Reasons and falls in love with it.

Joanne saved Gaga. It's a love letter to all the fans and non-fans who vowed to give her one more chance to show them the real her.

Lemonade is the worst album I've ever heard in my life, please don't remind of that tragedy. The concept and the film were nice but the album itself...travesty

There's not one song on Joanne that's better than a song on Melodrama.

You can't state that as fact. You can only state that as opinion. For example, my opinion:  I enjoyed melodrama, but after a few listens, it becomes tiring. It's also extremely short. None of the songs have enough melody. no memorable choruses. No memorable beats. But I do put it over Witness. Artistically I would put it under Joanne, and vocally, it's not even a competition. Lyrically, Melodrama is probably the best though.

Joanne was great, Gaga is in good standing with the GP, Gaga has ha lasting impact, so I'm not surprised! Lorde is newer and stuff but has a great album, and katy has a decent album but is for some reason hated among if i dare say half of the stan world.
