Is Lorde A Better Songwriter Than Gaga?

I think that Lorde is more consistent in her songwriting meanwhile Gaga has many more highs and lows, but the highs are higher and the lows are lower. It's also important to remember that Gaga has more albums with which to judge her writing than Lorde's.

I think Lorde is more consistent both in topics she writes about as well as how she writes about them meanwhile Gaga is a bit more adventurous in her approach (not experimental), and that sometimes yields some misses. For instance, Lorde writes a lot of breakup songs, nothing bad and Gaga does as well, but she wrote Judas. She took the "love a bad boy" song trope and has written Bad Romance, Judas, John Wayne, Monster, and others I'm probably forgetting. Hell, she even wrote Speechless is you look at the lyrics literally. My point is that Gaga will approach a topic in many different ways and that that leaves her open to falling short meanwhile Lorde seems to stick to doing what she does and doing it well.

So not better, just different.

just because Lorde wrote one amazing album doesn't mean she's better songwriter :toofunny: she might be but I don't understand how y'all can judge her abilities based on one album, Gaga has been giving us quality albums for almost a decade now, Lorde has yet to prove her abilities

5 albums of meaningful lyrics? :rip: where the **** are they? Joanne is her most meaningful album yet and most songs are still meh-superficial lyrically. Born This Way and TFM are the only Gaga albums that show that even though her lyrics aren't very deep ,they can be very entertaining, creative and original at times. ARTPOP is a horribly written album at most parts

(I do believe that Gaga is pretty good at melodies but really lyrics are not her strongest asset)

Beyonce has a songwriter hall of fame award as well and she hasn't written a song in her life.

So BTW wasnt full of meaningful lyrics? :oprah: Even The Fame/Fame Monster and ARTPOP has meaningful lyrics

Joanne is most woke. But listen again honney, cause Gaga has some deep and meaningful lyrics:trollga: Gaga can write lyrics waaaaay better than Lorde, period.

I never bashed Gaga for being a bad songwriter, both are extremely excellent, but Lorde has definitely proved her writing abilities with both her albums as well as Gaga

The one who has class.

Gaga is GREAT at mastering the best, pop choruses and stellar verses. Lorde focuses on narratives, somewhat Lorde's choruses on her songs are long and in the narrative team.

Honestly, Melodrama was a big step down from Pure Heroine in terms of songwriting. In a lot of songs it appears she was trying to write a "hook" but it just fell flat, or she was trying to go for a certain structure but it made no sense in terms of the overall song, whereas Pure Heroine was just solid, cohesive, well structured and well-flowing song writing in nearly every song.

Still neither album's songwriting is anything comparable to anything Gaga has written. It's just apples and oranges. Joanne and The Fame/Monster are great songwriting imo, and her most consistently written bodies of work. BTW and ARTPOP both have high points and low points.

I know every Gaga lyric sweety :awkney: The fact that her songs tend to have a message doesn't make the songwriting itself deep

I'd say it depends on which albums...

I don't find Lady Gaga's writing beyond amazing on Joanne tbh...

Though Lorde is not even coming close to TF / TFM / BTW or even ARTPOP writing

ARTPOP had some great writing, just that people misinterpreted the songs for self-indulgence and sex while they have a very different meaning than what is seen from first glance.

No, Gaga is a master with words!

Her best lyrics:

"Love it when you call me legs
In the morning buy me eggs"

I think they're too different, but I think Lorde is very much like Lana in that their music is great and diverse but it doesn't have the same hooks and lyric genius that Gaga's work does.
