ApplauseftAdele 4,730
I understand the frustration throughout the fan base that Gaga is ignoring a potential song of the summer. But I have a theory, backed up by the recent rumor of a MV coming on Monday, that The cure wasn't simply a "gift" or a "break" from the Joanne aesthetic. It is highly speculated that The Cure was originally the lead single for the first LG5, as a pretty legit insider said back in 2015 the lead was "_ _ _ _ _ _ _". I don't think that was a coincidence, the Cure definitely could have been the comeback single. But then Gaga wanted to release Joanne, to change up her pop Persona and create more authentic music, among other reasons, although she was aware that her fan base and the GP would have mixed feelings. However, she kept the Cure, and waited until after Joanne to please her pop fans and the GP. After the Joanne era ended (minus the tour, but the end of single promotion) Gaga originally probably wanted to drop the Cure at the beginning of Summer and slay the GP with a bop. But then she was scheduled for Coachella in April, and decided to premiere it there, 2 months early, for a giant free promo slot. The thing is, her management still wants The cure to be a summer bop, the problem is it was premiered in April. So my theory is that they are purposely keeping the Cure on the DL, so when the REAL promo starts on Monday, the GP will be introduced to a song at the beginning of the summer, a perfect time for a tropical bop. If they did all the promotion immediately after release, it would peak earlier but probably not as high as if it was THE song of the summer. Instead, they are hoping people DONT listen to it, so that they will be shook at the beginning of summer. evidence : the Million Reasons billboard that was spotted in May, someone made a thread about it. Why else would they promote MR instead of a brand new single? Maybe they are just waiting for summer. Summary : Gaga decided to premiere The Cure 2 months early at Coachella, but still wanted a summer bop, so they are ignoring it until summer for a bigger impact. I personally think that this makes sense, but anyways, thoughts?

Supersonic 49,376
no. Gaga farted The Cure out because she thought "Why not?" and didn't expect it to do as well as it ended up doing. Her team probably expected everyone to forget about the song 2 weeks after it was out but that didn't happen, so they were kinda in a tricky situation: They had a potential hit on their hands that came out of the blue, but because of previously scheduled commitments, Gaga was not able to react accordingly and do promo. So they had to find a middle ground (Spotify playlists, radio payola & lyrics video) to fill up literally 8 weeks until Gaga would be able to actually be able to do something. styleyourvision 606
I mean we've all heard how her music can change just from demo to demo while not even considering demo to master... It wouldn't be crazy at all if The Cure was written awhile ago and changed over time

juju 18,907
All in all, it was a one-off single for us to enjoy, it wasn't destined to storm the charts or revolutionize pop music - just a pleasant gift to her fans and friends. I think we should appreciate what it's done for her streaming numbers and for hanging onto the charts for this long, instead of thinking about what could've been. ❤ x ❤
