Vodka 4,478
First off, we all know of her debut album, as Katheryn Hudson but I'm not talking about religion or anything like that. When I talk about spirituality, or just being spiritual, I mean more of the concern of the human spirit, or taking care of your soul, emotionally, mentally psychologically, that kind of stuff. Something apart from the physical. That kind of well being. I think about her contemporaries, other pop girl acts, like Rihanna, Nicki, Madonna, Miley and so on. They've all got their sense of branding to them, their trademark of some sort. Rihanna's got the club girl kinda hustle, urban. Nicki with her own niche in Hip-Hop. Madonna in her kind of activist sexy pop (her obsession with leather translates well for her dancers imo ), Miley with the outlandish (in a good way ofc), Taylor from Country to cheerleader kinda pop. Even Gaga started things off with her career off,and still builds it with themes of Fame (from TF, TFM to ASIB). So where does she fit in? Katy's always just been sorta content with being in the spotlight, for having her bops, but I feel like, she's got so much potential for making music that touches the soul, better than some, and reminds you of how human you are. I mean she's always been aware of her humanity, and she sings of that, and myself at least, ponder my existence, and the things that I want for myself in life. From Circle the Drain, Who Am I Living For, to more of her self-empowering songs, like Firework, Part of Me, Unconditionally, she's got a streak of singing her vulnerabilities easier than her peers, and make it sound simple to just heal from any kind of pain a person's been harboring (her head tones are just so soothing, even if her voice isn't as the best). She does this more in her new album, with Witness and other tracks (it's been out in NZ ), and I've enjoyed most of it pretty well. I mean she even wrote a song, called "Spiritual" so . . . Has she found her niche? Will she delve deeper into this kind of music? Will Miley sorta block that with her upcoming toned-down music? Have you listened to The Cure recently?? Seriously tho, I think that her self-empowering tracks, that have that delicate touch to them are the best. What do you think? Gonna be a Witness? Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.
Fernster7 7,923
If they are like Witness the track, Unconditionally and the last half of Prism except for like two songs I'm here for it. Otherwise give those bops you know how to make, stop this purposeful pop nonsense. Monsters never die.
AMENiCURE 9,381
It does suit her but all that matters to Katy is a #1 hit.
BBhomemaker 5,611
I absolutly see what you talk about it I think the same she got a spiritual mind I notice that since Prism the concept and the Last-half part of the album and now in Witness. Is really idk how to say it but kinda meanfull and like a trough about the world, the feelings and more than just human places she got a real reflexion, a worldwide culture and beliefs behind the loolipops, bublepop style and kitty purry, and I think we gonna see more that Katy in the futur

Yeah, I enjoy that kind of stuff from her, Chained to the Rhythm was a bit stiff imo, but I think I know what you're talking about yeah Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad. ryhanna 3,507
If I could choose a direction for Katy to take, I'd want her to come back with her next album with her classic black hair and take on some gothic imagery. Think Wide Awake meets Penny Dreadful aesthetic. With music to match, perhaps, as you say, more spiritual, mystical and dark.

She has some ballads that have meaningful lyrics (from what I've heard, can't pinpoint a specific one). She had five #1s from one album ffs . I think she can really make the best of both worlds and serve meaningful bops. #WalkingOnAirShouldHaveBeenASingle #BonAppetitIsABop
Maleficent 6
Unconditionally and I'm Still Breathing are the highlights of her discography in my opinion. I really liked her Alanis Morissette influenced sound during One Of The Boys. I guess we'll have to see with Witness

Witness is a bit shaky, when it comes to just being an overall album imo, but I really do think she can do both, and well too. I love both tracks, can't agree with ya more 7 hours ago, BBhomemaker said: Yes kinda philosophical sometimes like she had take a step back from the society or just laid back but at the same time implicated I found the definition of metaphysics it's exactly the world thanks I enjoy her radio upbeat hit for sure but this songs are more deep like The One that got away, Legendary Lovers, Choose Your Battles, Search Me or some of Witness I get her purposeful pop, I really do, I just think sometimes the delivery needs some polish. I can appreciate her stuff, and do, but it's just how it's made sometimes that makes the track or bends it. And yeah! Metaphysics is a real interesting subject imo, just some food for thought. I've actually never heard Search Me, no did I know of its existence , but I'll give it a listen. I think Katy has a kind of charm when she's being vulnerable, and it's sort of interesing how she gets that to work for her. Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.
