Literally, I think she's got all that it takes to be one of the top artists - her voice is very different and outstanding, her music is sometimes fun, sometimes deep, but always amazing, her visuals are fun and interesting and she is so beautiful. Why isn't she more popular?

Her most watched video on YouTube is "Primadonna" with 59 million views. She deserves more! :grr:

Good music. Maybe they haven't sacrificed virgins to the illuminati yet. :madge:

I feel like people heard a few of her Electra Heart songs and brushed her off as a wannabe bubblegum popstar. It may have hindered her reputation, even though that album has a great concept.

Also, her voice is different, and that's not always a good thing. Some people might be turned off by it. Frankly, I find it rather unpleasant on some songs, but it works really well on others.

I honestly don't know why she never ever truly broke through.

She's in a weird place where she's known by some people, she has a stable fanbase, releases consistently good music, but she never truly gets acknowledge by like...Billboard or MTV.

But maybe that's for the best. I feel like she and Lana are best as popular alternative niche artists.

Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.

I remember her having a lot of mainstream success with Primadonna Girl in the UK (on Electra heart album), even more so than her first album.

She might be a bit too different to be in the upper echelons of the pop world. She seems to be more interested in writing lyrics that are truly expressive of her state of mind/challenging etc. She's probably my favourite modern lyricist the lyrics on her first album were super neurotic!

Though Gaga is different too, Gaga debuted with Just Dance which is very accessible so she could become different afterwards.

I'm sure she could if she wanted to, the follow up to Electra Heart was FROOT though which wasn't a super super super commercial album. If she aggressively pursued commercialism sure she might be able to.

Though Lana Del Rey isn't super commercial, she was somehow accidentally so fitting with things that were bubbling under in people's interests -- retro, vintage, nostalgic.

It's not necessarily how good you are it's if you fit with the zeitgeist I guess and touch a nerve somehow
