I never said anything against advanced life? I am saying there might be advanced life forms which do not resemle our looks

They probably would look similar though too. If they were on one of those earth-like planets they wouldn't be completely different. Which is why aliens are always depicted as human-like I think.

Sure there could be completely foreign advanced life beyond our comprehension but it's likely they would be somewhat similar. Stephen Hawkin has quite a few docs on YouTube about it, interesting watch :)

Let's assume that 0.1% of planets have/had/will have life. This includes life as we don't know it, (meaning: life that isn't carbon based, but could be argon based, or even uranium based)

The universe is about 14 billion years old. Humans came into existence within the past 10,000 years, and we have scientifically evolved within the past 50 years.

Okay, time for the math:

.........

If 0.1% of the planets in our own galaxy (The Milky Way) had any form of life, either that be single cellular or multi-cellular; we would have approximately 160,000,000,000 x 0.1 (approx planets in galaxy multiplied by what we're assuming how much life there could be), we would get 160,000,000 (one hundred and sixty million planets)

That may seem like a lot; however, we then divide them amongst our galaxy.

The Milky Way is about 100,000 light years in length, and 10,000 light years in depth. Multiply both of those using V=PiR^2H = 3.14159 x 50,000ly^2 x 10,000ly = 78,540,000,000,000 (78.5 Trillion Cubic Light Years)

We then divide 78,540,000,000,000 by 160,000,000 and come up with 490,873. This number represents the volume of light years in our galaxy where one type of life lives.

If we assume this is correct, we are thousands of light years away from the nearest life-form (which isn't that far on universal scale)

But, I'm not finished yet.... Remember how I said humans only came around 10,000 years ago or so? Well, since the universe is about 14,000,000,000 years old, and our galaxy about 13 billion... This means that life could have popped up and went away at any state. There could have been millions of life forms, many even super intelligent; before we came along into existence. However, what are the odds that two intelligent life-forms would occur within the same time period, and within close proximity to one another? That's what I want you to think about when assuming we have been visited. I don't want to deny it, but it is simply highly unlikely.

Great post but humans did not just come to be 10,000 years ago.

It's estimated Homo sapiens evolved 200,000 years ago and Homo sapiens with modern behavior around 50,000 years ago if I remember correctly.

Complex civilization did arise around 10,000 years ago though.

THANK YOU.

I believe aliens can or do/have existed, but "walking among us" bs? Spare me :madge:

Unless he means aliens in the microbial sense then that would clear things up.

I have always been fascinated by the Universe & I truly hope that we will find another "intelligent form of life" soon :gaysia:

This is some good analysis but you are assuming normal space travel. An advanced civilization may have discovered a way to travel through wormholes or by bending space (both theoretically possible). This would shorten distances and time dramatically.

Exactly. But once again, how would they know to find us? We have only been sending out communications for about 100 years. That would mean a super intelligent lifeform would have to be within 100lys, plus exist at the exact same time as us. Once again, I want to believe they are here or have been here; however, the odds are very very unlikely :(

The only way intelligent beings could have been here is either by mistake, or they helped create something here.

Yes, sorry that's what I meant.

Before 10,000 years, we were basically wild beings. I was using the stable of critical thinking for a time stamp

I mean, it's definitely possible for a solar system with many planets to have similar life on those planets.

If the life on one planet was caused by a comet impact, there's a chance remnants of that impact could have travelled elsewhere in a solar system!

I'm not doubting the fact that we may have life on a few planets or moons in our own system. Life came to be on Earth around 3.8 billion years ago, so it's possible whatever caused life, could have been sent out amongst the other stars, too!

The possibilities are endless :sis:

Good points once again. I also agree is unlikely. All I am saying is that the possibility is there. I mean they could have some sort of life detection techology that we don't know of. They could have discovered a new form of communication.

That's a very earthbound thinking because other planets may have lifeforms that aren't carbon based

I understand that. And I am sure there are some very different looking beings out there because of that. But water and Earth like planets seem to be very abundant.

Not really. We have found countless hospitable earth-like planets all in the goldilocks zone that have the potential to harbour life. It's actually extremely likely that there are other species out there following a similar evolutionary path.

I think it would be egotistical of us as a species to believe  the thousands of earth-like planets we have found, not one contains the building blocks for advanced life and therefore evolution?

Earth like planets in habitable zone is but a tiny fraction of important factors. The vast majority still wont harbour life. Of course they help narrow it down of where to look

I believe alien life does exist but may be more rare than some believe

This! Space is huge and our signals would have only reached a handful of other systems by now

Unless they travel here by chance, the nearest advanced race (which could be thousands of light years away) wouldnt be aware of us
