In the late 80s, there was this big shift in how you presented yourself on the dancefloor. It was the end of trying to look cool and suave, and the beginning of dancing just to feel good. More arms in the air than footwork and fancy clothing. Who cares if you button your starched shirt all the way up and look like sex scares the **** out of you. Just keep on feeling the music! I re-enacted that experience while riding an amusement park attraction called something like "Discojet, very much under the influence. The wind in my hair, the G-force tugging my insides and Temptation at full blast made the hairs in my arm stand up and reach towards the skies like neon tentacles! I'm not sorry. From it's 1990 co-production and mixing by William Orbit (which leaves Madonna quite late at the game. Ha! Ha-ha-haaa...) to it's cover art by somebody who, when I first saw the credits thought "ooooh...suave!" it just seem a bit too polished. But WTF cares when the crystalline clarity of the production make your eyes tear up because of the sheer perfection of it. What elevator music might sound like in heaven. This is a 1984 song, which makes it more credible to deduce I discovered it some time later, but it's still so high class (for me!) and sort of the thing real musicians admire that I get hot flushes from my sheer geniality! And yes, that's a 1984 Jean-Paul Gaultier prototype of the Madonna cone bra. There's also a Mugler outfit or two in there. I AM JUST THE WORKS! You really wish you knew me. He's all straight acting homeboy and ogles (and goes home with) a female gogo dancer, but these lyrics are pure ostracized gay man's revenge and he releases music under the name Banji Boys.
