Trumps promisses of Balancing the budget within 10 years are basically impossible unless there is some major economic revolution of gigantic proportions

 

First of all Trump assumes GDP growth of 3% every year for next decade. A plan over such a long period of time even with good economic policies, at least 1 recession and cyclical slowdowns are likely to happen making such a strong average nearly impossible to sustain

 

Secondly with already low unemployment and aging population and more retirees it is unlikely that the US has the capacity to expand more than 2% a year unless there is major gains in productivity per worker or a big increase in immigration

 

Lastly even if the economy did manage to miraculously boom that much, Trump is not taking into account that stronger growth also means higher interest rates. With a $20 Trillion debt, If Government Bond yields rose even just to 4%, yearly interest payments on debt would rise some $300 Billion a year wiping out much of the revenue gains from stronger economy

 

In a nutshell, his plans will not balance budget by longshot!
