North America is a continent. South America is a continent. The United States of America is the only country in both continents with "America" in the official name of the country. That is why it is often abbreviated to the US, USA, or America. People from The United States of America are called Americans. People from Canada are called Canadians. People from both countries are continentally "North American", but not American. If you are from Brazil, you are Brazilian. Continentally you are South American- but there is no continent called "America".

The whole hip hop industry at the present day is completely mediocre and t makes a lot of money. Drake's music is very similar to justin's and he makes a lot of money. Mediocrity isn't just a white thing, and that's racist of you to say so.

Did I say there are no "mediocre" artists of color? No, I did not. That's an assumption YOU made. I'm referring to a clear pattern/trend of many popular white artists, who have little talent to begin with, appropriating OTHER people's cultures, music, art, whatever it is, simply for their own gain and benefit, and to boost their own careers. On top of that, you know that if you're black or brown in this country, you already have to work twice or thrice as hard to get to same level of success as these white people. Katy Perry can just get on stage, dance and sing terribly, and then get Migos and a bunch of drag queens to cover for that. The point is that it is much easier for white people to get away with sh*t, especially when it comes to appropriating and exploiting others for their own personal gain. You gotta be able to think about the bigger picture here. Mediocre artists of all races exist, of course. But think about context, and power dynamics- racially, socially, etc. It's easier for white people to be mediocre, and succeed, and, as Katy does, to cover for that mediocrity by using others. That's the point here.

Justin Bieber is a feature on another artist's Spanish song. They, used him for popular gain. So, yeah. Everyone is guilty of the same thing. Mediocrity exists everywhere. People use people. Quit pointing the finger. Start paying attention to much more talented artists. There are rock, folk, pop, hip hop, country artists on the Indy scene that are so much more talented and better, but don't get any attention. Why? Because people want to continue to buy Katy, Riahanna, and nicki Minaj albums.
NCgaga 4,324
And by the way, some of the biggest names in music are people of color and are mediocre at best(Rihanna, nicki, drake, etc) - so please don't make this a white thing. This is a cultural thing in which people permit mediocrity to outshine talent. And talent comes in all colors.

Because people want to continue to buy Katy, Riahanna, and nicki Minaj albums. I made a point, multiple times, and it keeps going right over your head. Take Miley Cyrus - she blatantly used hip hop to boost her career, literally used black people as props in her performances, and then discarded the whole thing like a piece of trash when it was no longer convenient for her to use it, suddenly claiming that hip hop was too much about "pu*sy money weed" (which is also equally offensive). And here she is again, going back to her country roots, and we're all just supposed to forget about what she did 3 years ago? Miley got more recognition for using hip hop and not even doing it well, than did actual, talented black rappers, of which there are MANY. And, that is THEIR culture to begin with. On a separate note, tell me why Macklemore, a white, mediocre-ass rapper, won album of the year over Kendrick Lamar? How about Taylor Swift's album winning over Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp a Butterfly"? These people are mediocre and are awarded for it. Their whiteness certainly plays a role. It is much rarer for a black or brown artist to be recognized in the same way, even if, as in the case of Kendrick, their body of work is 1000x superior than that of said white artist. If you think race has nothing to do with how others succeed more than others, especially when certain (white) people appropriate things of others and act like it's their own, AND get praised and win Grammys for it, you are fooling yourself. Again, it's more than just about the fact that anybody can be mediocre. Societal context is important, and that's what you're excluding from your thought process. Think about this harder. I sure hope you'll get there.
