Artists You Knew Before They Went Big

Like a lot of people I heard Breathe Me by Sia, I think it was in 2009. I liked this song a lot but didn't know it was her. When I learnt years later, after Chandelier and all her success, that it was her, I was shocked. Her voice and style have changed through time.

I think Kendrick Lamar really became famous with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City so we can say we knew him before (the demo with Gaga...).

Maybe LP too, she's not that big but I heard Lost on You a lot at the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. I knew her thanks to the use of her song Muddy Waters in OITNB.

Bebe Rexha - Heard about her from a collab with Cash Cash called Take Me Home. Was super interested in her cause her voice is beautiful and she was an amazing singer. She even responded to one of my comments on FB when she was underground. However, it all went quickly downhill when No Broken Hearts came out and she became a bottle blonde. Really sad, though. She had so much potential and individuality, now she's just another boring pop starlet. 

 

Iggy Azalea - Heard about her before Fancy blew up, I even listened to her song Bounce a lot (admittedly a mistake). 

 

Melanie Martinez - idk if she counts cuz she's not huge, but I was a fan before all of the wannabe-alternative tweens began idolising her.

 

Sia - ahh Sia. One of my favorite artists of all time, I fell in love with all of her 2000s albums. When Chandelier became a hit, I couldn't be happier, because now everybody gave her the credit she deserves. Lately her music hasn't been the best (really the whole This Is Acting except for a few songs plus all the songs she's doing for soundtracks are not ok), but I truly believe that she'll continue making interesting now-pop music in the future.

Halsey - I remember when she was really new to the scene and irrelevant AF YouTube reccomended me her video for Ghost, not that I liked it but yes I knew about her before she blew up
