The funny thing is that if she showed up dressed as a fking viking or like she was ready for oktoberfest nobody would have said anything, cause those are "white things" and apparently cultural appropriation works only for minorities. And that's retarded. And also, people should stop treating culture as an object: it's not something you possess or steal from someone. Culture is kept alive by sharing it with others.ย Not true. Many black celebrities have been accused of acting "too white" by the black community. To name two that come to mind: Beyonce &ย Nicki Minaj. Many people bashed them for having blonde hair a lighter skin tones. They would say that Bey "acted white" in the Pink Panther movie and that she catered to the white crowd. Nicki Minaj was treated the same. They said her pop style was too white and that she catered to teen white girls. May I Read You?

Your examples are criticism Nicki and Beyoncรฉ faced for allegedely betraying their own community to appeal to white people/the masses. Like I don't think the people that criticised them cared for white people being robbedย of their blond hair (thank god cause that wouldn't make sense at all lmao). At least that's my perception but I could be wrong! ย My point is: I don't really believe in cultural appropriation per se. What I have aย problem with is when the "appreciation" goes as far as to become fetishization or mockery (cough cough 2013 Miley Cyrus), but it doesn't seem Katy was doing that with her performance.ย The only girl I've ever loved was born with roses in her eyes

StrawberryBlond 14,872
Look, I'm usually one of the biggest haters of cultural appropriation nonsense but I've always been able to tell the difference between acceptable indulging in a culture and uneducated mocking and stereotyping of a culture. Katy is using black rappers and black music for no reason other than coolness and relevancy and it's clear she doesn't properly understand it at all. She can only show stereotypes and thinks it's all one big joke. I totally believe that black guy who said on Twitter that she referred to him as "my n***a" and didn't stop even though he told her that it was inappropriate and offended him. Katy comes across as the type of white girl that gives us decent white girls a bad name. Because of her and a few others like her, we have to deal with being stereotyped as vapid bitches with dogs in handbags who are say "oh my god" and use slang terms that they don't understand to be cool and think singing Super Bass makes them knowledgeable about rap. I've been trying to dispel this stereotype for years, Katy, and you could do so much damage!
Fanta 5,019
She does not seem well this era at all, serving me Amanda Bynes/Miley Cyrus teas.
