funkyhaus 7,697
I expected another TFM tbh, I liked Joanne but I didn't listen to it as much/was as obsessed with it as I was with her previous albums
Anderson123 38,292
After The Fame and The Fame Monster, I realized Gaga was not like the other popstars, she was building a fanbase and a stage. With Born This Way, I felt like she was showing the world the music that she wanted to make and took advantage of the stage that she built. That's when I realized that maybe Gaga knows she was going big and could probably have the chance to record an album that she'd believe in and show her real influences. When Cheek To Cheek was released it made me believe that one day that'd happen because she had the creative freedom to record the music she wanted, unlike many other popstars that have talked about the stuff they're doing but they get pushed back in the studio to record something more commercial. I knew she'd record something more laid back but didn't expect it to come out after ARTPOP to be honest. I thought it was too soon for that but I love it. I didn't expect the country and folk influences because I thought she was more of a metal girl but it makes sense. Cheek To Cheek was an important album because it allowed Gaga to be confident about her voice and record something not for the radio but for the fans and just for people who love her music. I'll come back to this post later because I have to go and didn't read what I just wrote so sorry if it doesn't make sense.
juju 18,907
I figured she'd go down the road eventually, considering her roots with Red & Blue, and some of the unreleased pre-The Fame songs. I'm actually listening to it on repeat now, it's such a good healing record and I'm already nostalgic for the era ❤ x ❤
PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
I didn't expect it nor did I want it. PI had me hyped because I love that kind of music, then when the snippets leaked I just lost all hype. I enjoy country music, I enjoy Americana music, I enjoy folk music, I enjoy soft rock music. However, I don't enjoy gagas take on those genres of music. The Cure pacified me though. So I'll just look forward to the next album.
A D A M 551
I had feeling that Gaga will release album which is kinda BTW but less electronic, more rockish. She dropped teaser for Perfect Illusion I was like 'wooooooo', the song slayed me so hard, that was exactly the direction I wanted her to explore. But Joanne is more peacefuly than my expections were and it's not bad, Gaga just tricked me cause she was always serving her albums with mostly dynamics songs and I can't deny I liked that she tried something else. AlexanderMagno 10,746
No. Eventually, yes. It was very predictable that this album would come from Gaga sooner or later. But I was expecting it later. Only because she had created a lot of hype around the new RedOne songs. And then... Then Joanne came
Jorge Gonzalez Varela 368
Of course not, Joanne is a mistake, she had "cleaned" her image with the golden globes, the oscars, Jazz's wonderful album, it was a great time to release the great pop album, with great dance hymns and a great Concept but she released the trash Joanne. Here's to our brand new start, I won't be waiting for nothing. I'll mend the broken parts. Pick up the pieces,

Doot 2
I didn't expect it at all, simply because she hyped and vocally made us believe something else was coming. She stated during filming AHS that she was tapping into the darkness she was known for for the next album (sorry, some can argue that Joanne is "dark" (its not)) but she was calculated when she said that. She paired that with saying she was working with RedOne, so she hyped an different album and era. I think we will get many albums in the future which will explore different sounds, as how this one explored country and folk music. We can simply pray she releases a "Confessions" album. Only issue I have is that she seems to have left her fashion, over the top past behind. Which sorta makes me feel sad.

Lol Joanne is not trash. It's her best and most beautiful album to date! I respect your different opinion though! To each their own! OT I didn't necessarily expect an album as raw as Joanne but I really did hope she wouldn't just put out another album full of dance tracks, so I was very happy with the results! Sailor 3,321
The truth is that whether or not it is typical Gaga is completely irrelevant. I am proud of her for finally saying no to everybody and doing work that she wants to do. While it may not really be my thing in a musical sense, after everything she has done for us (especially this year), she deserves it. bannedT for life and it's SAD
