Ok but why is Demi up there?

She's not as popular as the rest listed above, but she still is a pretty successful singer!

they have big egos :poot:

ok but seriously I think there several reasons and y'all already stated them... labels make pop competitive, duets are vanilla and uninteresting for GP today, and contemporary pop stars often don't fit each other that well anyway

Because a lot of them don't get along. Obviously, the biggest names are competition for other big names and they know people compare them like "She's got the voice, but she's got the songs" or "She has the hits, but she has the quality," kinda thing. They know that their fanbases can be a bit harsh on other artists as well, so don't want to cause rifts by featuring someone on their song that their fanbase dislikes. Most of all, they want more hits than any other female, so featuring one of them on her song will lead to the song being counted as a hit in the other artist's discography too, so that's not happening.

Remember that Katy and Rihanna were supposed to collab years ago? I remember around 2011/2012 when they were really tight friends, Katy said that they were working on a collab together and it was going to be a real feminist anthem like Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves. But she then said that they were focused on making it really awesome so they weren't going to rush it because you have to wait for greatness. Well, I don't even know if they're friends anymore and this whole idea was never mentioned again. Rihanna probably thinks that Katy's music is so far removed from the edgy music she's making these days. And speaking of Rihanna, remember her and Shakira's collab, Can't Remember To Forget You? Yeah, that was a huge damp squib, missed top ten in most of the world or went right down the charts after release. That shows you that even collabs with 2 big artists doesn't always guarantee success. The song's got to be good for that to happen.
