But Gaga has been in the pop industry for 9 years only though. Most of these popgirls have been in the business for more than a decade/ decades.

Gaga doesn't release as many singles as the others too.

Yeah but let's not pretend she has no issue getting a hit...

This reinforces my point about what goes to #1 isn't necessarily what the public remembers. I'm sure most non-fans think that Bad Romance went to #1, easily. I would have gladly put my life savings on Rude Boy going to #1 in my country, I swore I could distinctly remember it, but no, #2 in the UK. I used to go back and check periodically to ensure that it wasn't a Wikipedia typo, but no. Most people probably do the same for other artists. Some big hits weren't even chart hits.

I really don't think you should be counting collabs on other people's songs and remixes as #1's, though as they're not counted by any respected music publication or music institution.

The fact that a far more explicit mv like Anaconda isn't though :grr:

Exactly. YouTube used to be so much stricter when it came to inappropriate content. S&M used to be age-restricted which is the reason why it has so few views even though it's one of Rihanna's most recognisable hits and and it's so weird to think that actually happened because there's nothing explicit in it at all. Apparently it was all because she mimics fellatio on a banana. Like, seriously? That was for about 2 seconds. Luckily, they just save age-restriction for the videos that actually need it now, like Bitch Better Have My Money or the explicit version of Blurred Lines. Videos that actually have inappropriate content and nudity in them. Yet, they'll happily keep Pour It Up, Wrecking Ball and Anaconda un-restricted (maybe they don't want the dislikes on the latter 2 to go down, who knows?). But yeah, restricting the audio was un-called for. Yes, it was because of the covert art, which was close to almost showing us a very intimate part of Gaga due to the camera angle and how wedged that thong was. Yet, Anaconda is allowed despite the fact that Nicki displays the same look but front-facing in the scene where she's wearing pink on the yoga mat. Maybe it was allowing a video like that that caused the audio to become un-restricted, though?

who tf is Paula Abdul with 6 #1 ??:saladga:

You know, the original female judge on American Idol. She was a big star in the late 80's and mid 90's. She got 6 back-to-back #1's. She was also known for her incredible dancing skills. Look up her name on YouTube and watch some of her old videos. Some of them are really good songs for 80's nostalgia and her dancing skills are brilliant. Nicki Minaj even sampled the violin solo on her song, Grand Piano from Paula's 1991 #1, Rush Rush.

I think you should start the counting from when Gaga started her career because some of them like Britney and Rihanna started before + their career is divided to the time when people actually bought music and you could sell millions to the recent years where you barely could sell 150k..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

2009-2011 she had worldwide impact with each & every commercial release of hers.

TBH I prefer her being an international star rather than a domestic one. Eg

Mariah has 18 no.1's in US yet the only songs that are well known in Europe are Without You, My all, We belong together & All I want for Christmas is You.

I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.

Koumarianou indeed is more wellknown than Abdul.

Cher only has 4 solo number ones. They aren't the only part of your legacy that matters.

As much as I love her, Mariah has so many forgotten #1's and even some of her more memorable hits like Obsessed didn't even make top five. And the fact that Nicki Minaj has never had one further proves that #1's don't mean much.
