I do agree that the video has a very good visual aesthetic, and she looks sexy btw.

But was it worth it?

I mean, the song is pretty bad (Her worst imo). And I think the purpose of the video is very blurry. Many of you have said it's empowering and that she finds strengh in her own sexuality. But I think the video doesn't really showcase that. At the beginning, she's somehow tortured and used like a pile of flour. And then she comes out of nowhere to get revenge and massacre a bunch of people to eat them.

Although I think there were interesting ideas behind it,  the execution came to be very basic. The plot just gets lost (Just like her last video). Katy doesn't seem to be commited to the idea, so it looks like another non sensical pop video.

Based on that, I think there was no point on making it. This is not "Purposeful Pop" imo.

You can think what you want, but you CAN NOT say that Bon Appétit is worse than Love Me or you need help lol

Tbh I didn't like bon appetit (I'm not a katy hater, I like most of her songs) but after this great video I begin to listen to it, it's a funny light song. I think after all a good music video may save a single from flopping.

REALITY

The video itself is beautiful and well shot, but the song itself isn't all that great. CTTR, in my opinion, was much better.

I appreciate the video so much too, I've missed videos that really push the envelope, but Marry The Night is a masterpiece.

I would like it more if it wasn't so cheesy. Like those stupid faces she was making in the video really made me hate it.

Vodka

I like how she sounds more receptive towards her haters than how DWUW did. Like with DWUW, we sorta knew that it wasn't all too much about sex, whereas Katy managed to divert my attention from the media and backlash to more of food that translated to sex. So yeah, I like how she did that.

Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.

This does not belong in gaga thoughts.. :awkney:

Bon Appetit as a song has such a dumb concept lol I think it is cringey. Video has a great production value but I still am not sold on the concept.

Not trying to be rude or anything really but. Isn't the concept more like she's displaying herself as a morsel for those who dislike her, that she's in for the taking? Opinions, hate etc. from the media, her audience? Then she sort of has them where she wants them in that way?

Similar to DWUW in concept if u ask me.

You are entitled to your opinion but I notice that almost everyone who likes this video is a man, gay or both. Basically, people for whom the sexualisation of women doesn't affect. It doesn't sicken you, sadden you and terrify you because it isn't relevant to you. You don't have to see your gender be degraded every day of your life in some form, whether you're watching tv or looking at magazine covers or simply walking down the street. Just for once, imagine being a woman and watching this and see how it makes you feel.

The first 80% of it, I totally agree, even as a straight girl. But that doesn't take away from the fact that she's degraded and that overrides any turned-on feelings for me. Thing is, have you ever considered how you wouldn't find this whole concept so sexy if it involved any other person in her place? I read a great book that discussed the effect of sexualisation on us and an experiment the author did involved showing a bunch of sexualised women in ads (and all the ads involved an element of violence, like a woman with a naked back and the company's name branded red and raw into her back, for example) to a panel of young people. They said they found these images sexy. But then they were asked how they'd feel if these women were replaced by a small child or a puppy. They were shocked and said that would be abusive. Basically, the images were only acceptable and hot when they involved a woman being abused. That tells you a lot about society's relationship with women, doesn't it? Objectification and violence against us is fine, as long as we look good when its done to us. So, no, the fact that she looks hot doesn't take away from the repellent messages in this video.

Well, this is by far the most intelligent comment of the whole thread. It's true that I might not love the video that much if Katy wasn't turning me up through the screen, but what amazes me the most is the way the whole thing is produced. It's pure perfection. Gaga's didn't achieve this in 6 years.

And about women, this is kind of true, it's easier for men to enjoy this kind of videos. But I think it's just nature, most of the women love to be dominated sex machines. Because men also use their body to sell, look at JB. Without his campain for Calvin Klein, do you really think he would have hit that much? It's the same, and I don't feel bad for him. I don't know if you'll understand what I mean, mon anglais est merdique...

Smother Em Eh

As much as I don't like the song, I really do love the video. The song for me is just plain dumb, poorly produced, meaningless, and cringey. Now the video is different for me. I like it because it's creative and interesting. It's one of Katy's best videos. As a die hard little monster, I can agree this is better than anything Gaga has put out so far during this era. (Except for John Wayne's which is very interesting but this video beats it with its creativity)
