You don't expect every Top 10 song every week to be from a legendary artist right? Trashy people, with trashy music, have always been there. And twenty years from now only a few will be remember, just like we only remember a few from twenty years ago.

 

And you know why you think music nowadays is worse than a few decades ago? Because you don't remember the bad songs from then. Only the good, excellent artists have endured. Same will happen in a few years. Only the good will stay.

That is why I think this type of thread is oversensationalist. But hey, it's a hit thread.

I absolutely love Fiona Apple! And Tori Amos! There were lots of great female singer-songwriters from the 1990s. They had to fight so hard.

What did I just watch tho. I feel like this music's appropriate for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie series.. just my opinion.. Like it's sounds like something a Sim would listen to. Maybe the studio version is better, but this just seemed lifeless to me. 

Question tho, is the reflection of their music the way they have sex? Bc I'd feel bad if that's how things were transcribed.

Because streaming and radio now influences more on the charts, specially streaming  because its cheaper and practical for people to listen music and its easier for artists too, to get them to know and feel like they are big. But its not just that, its what the gp likes, simple catchy and relatable songs. They got tired of big old names tho, thats why you dont see Gaga, Bey, Christina, Britney, Robbie Williams and idk many more, topping the charts like they used to, they want someone new and spontaneous, thats why most of the new singers you hear dont feel like they have big career ahead

I honestly think streaming is the reason. It's this playlist culture that dictates how people are making their music, as they all want to fit on the algorithm and be chosen to feature on playlists where the songs sound practically identical.

Music has just gotten lazy. And goddamn boring. It's not exciting anymore. I can't remember the last time I danced my ass off to a new song and felt like it was electrifying me. Most of the pop scene in 2017 is elevator music. Can you think of any songs right now that would drown out the noise in a bar and get people running to the dancefloor? The excitement has gone. And I blame these boring ass streaming playlists that are directing the way mainstream artists create their music, thereby turning the whole industry into a scrapheap of recycled instrumentals that take precedent over decent vocals, lyrics, melodies and choruses.

I have no idea how they'll fix it though. Maybe it's just teething problems and in a few years everything will level out again and artists will start creating big, explosive, interesting songs that don't get forgotten by the end of a playlist. Or maybe I'm way too optimistic and it's just going to get worse...

What are you even talking about? Did you live the 90s? No one wanted to stand out?! Hello? The Spice Girls, Madonna, Janet, Marilyn Manson, the Prodigy, Aqua... all these people STOOD THE **** OUT! They were VERY image-driven but they sold MILLIONS of records, they had things to say, and they all sounded different from each other! And I'm only mentioning those who made it huge.

What's wrong with music these days? Everything. Music has turned into McDonald's. I'll stream it for free while I'm doing something, I'll listen passively to the first playlist that pops up on Spotify. It's throwaway.

There was an integrity, a respect to the artist, in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s that is completely lost. The artist is on Twitter, the artist gets abused all the time, the music NEEDS to be trendy to sell, it NEEDS to feature someone who's in at the moment or it will go unnoticed. It's rappers, rappers, more rappers, some DJs, some more DJs and Justin Bieber. And it ALL sounds the same.

Looking at a top10 from 1997 is depressing, there were all kinds of music making it big back then, radio was willing to give songs a chance, the public was eager to find out about different artists, there were novelty acts who were able to make great songs, and legendary bands were still able to score top10 hits.

Now? None of that happens.
