I thought Madonna did win an oscar (over Elton no less)?

As you've discovered, that was the Globes. But Madonna has come close to being nominated before. You Must Love Me, the one original song from Evita, was written specially for her by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The story is that they sent her the song and she sent it back with some revisions and asked them to put her name in the credits if they used them. They were apparently furious at how she tried to weasel her way in and refused her request, giving her the 'take it or leave it' ultimatum. She decided to take the song in its original conception and the song was nominated and won, so if Andrew and Tim had been more lenient, she would have 'Oscar winner' to add to her impressive resumee. But as it is, she's still never even scraped a nomination. But here's the thing - Masterpiece did indeed win the Golden Globe and it almost got nominated for an Oscar. But the rules are different at the Oscars. The GG's are more lenient in the sense that as long as the song features at any point in the movie's run-time, it can be eligible for the award but with the Oscars, the rules state that if a song is not the first one played during the end credits, then it can't be eligible. As it was, Masterpiece was the second and final song to play over the credits, so it didn't qualify. Honestly, considering how much Madonna has clearly wanted her Oscar her entire career, I thought she and her team would have foreseen this. I don't know why they didn't read into the rules to make sure this didn't happen. She must have been fuming because when it comes to who get nominated and wins best song at the Oscars, they do tend to follow what the GG's do. It's a bit of a shame really because that was totally her last chance to ever win an Oscar. She says she won't do acting anymore and honestly, I think her music has just stopped being respectable enough to nominate by every awards committee.

EVITA and **** Tracy aren't small supporting roles tho. The terrible: Swept Away, Next Best Thing, Shanghai Surprise. I actually think she's really fun in Who's That Girl, the other film usually called out for how terrible she is. Body of Evidence is a bore but I wouldn't call her terrible in it, it's a bad film. I think in the future people will be kinder towards her movies, with some being classics.

True, Who's That Girl was a difficult one to judge her acting ability on because she's supposed to be a cartoon character, so of course she's going to be silly and crazy and a bit annoying. But that still doesn't take away from the fact that she still wasn't the best. Her voice made me physically wince. ToddInTheShadows reviewed all her films and he said the big mistake was the fact that the movie makers tried to make an annoying character likeable. I've seen annoying characters portrayed before but don't find them difficult to watch because they're supposed to be unlikeable. But I don't think I've ever seen an annoying likeable character. The fault lies with the makers of the movie, not her, ultimately. I still don't think comedy is the best vehicle for Madonna, however. Her sense of humour is too deep-pan and I'm always struck by how serious she comes across all the time. As for Body Of Evidence...is it wrong that I think those sex scenes in it are really hot? This sounds so pathetic but I watched it for the first time 3 years ago. I was staying in a holiday home and the owners had left an old VCR in my room with a selection of movies and one of them was the unrated version of this movie. Don't know how they thought it was appropriate to put it there but I played it for the hell of it. Yeah, it wasn't that great of a movie but honestly, the sex scenes were...very well done. But granted, Madonna playing a seductress seemed like a natural role for her so how she couldn't pull it off well surprises me. The way that she enunciates a lot of her lines in that film really irk me.

But really? You think Madonna films are going to be more respected in the future? She hasn't played the lead role in a movie for years and so much time as passed already but I don't see them get respected more, other than Evita. Some of them are from 25 years ago. If they're not respected after all this time, I don't think they ever will be. As time goes on, I've only seen people say that she was even worse than they remember the first time around. At the end of the day, she's won 9 Razzies out of 16 nominations. She's won Worst Actress 5 times, won Worst Supporting Actress twice, won Worst Screen Couple once, been nominated for Worst Actress of the Decade twice and won the ultimate award, Worst Actress of the Century. She holds the record as the female with the most Razzies. Sorry, but there's no coming back from that. She won that last award in 2000. Why she didn't just take the hint and decide to quit acting for there on out is beyond me. But no, she had to go on to make The Next Best Thing and Swept Away which made her even more of a laughing stock. Maybe her Masterpiece win at the GG's made her realise that this was as good as it was ever going to get, given the circumstances. I just don't know why it took her about 13 years after winning the biggest Razzie ever to realise that.

To have an ounce of this optimism!

ASIB will make maybe 20-30M US and maybe 80M WW

It'll be panned if not dragged

It won't do anything for her career and will be her own personal Glitter.

Bradley Cooper is arguably the biggest name in Hollywood at the moment. Given his status, do you think he'd direct, produce and co-star in a film with the biggest pop icon of the last decade to make an average figure at the box office and be destroyed by critics?

I think you were born brainless. Not even sorry.

Irrelevant

TC is basically a part of ASIB tho. It's not confirmed, I know, but with song titles leaking such as 'Heal Me' or 'Medication?' It's pretty obvious :trollga:

It's funny that after all these years, some Gaga fans still think that she's so desperate for charts that she'd rather promote The Cure or just release a POP album to please radio listeners.

Cher, Madonna, Whitney, Tina Turner, etc. they all worked on different projects instead of just focusing on the music. Gaga is the type of artist that doesn't settle for just one thing, she's been creating her legacy for a long time now, especially in 2015, 2016 and 2017 that you guys just don't see it or don't want to because you're busy looking at how high her singles peak on Billboard Hot 100.

I'm not even going to get deep into this topic but it's her career and her life. Of course I'd love to hear new music but all of these projects that she has been doing after ARTPOP have been interesting and important. I'm not expecting the movie to swipe Academy Awards but I'm just going to watch it and enjoy it. You guys sound very desperate.

She's literally going to tour the world in some months, that's showing she's a pop tour de force imo

lost in limbo

How about you stop being selfish and let Gaga do what she wants to do

Even if the movie is a commercial fail (which I don´t think it will be), the soundtrack can save it, just like Madonna with her ´´Who´s That Girl?´´

She´s doing what she wants. Bothered? The door is over there.

this is the state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight

I love how people base their predictions of it "flopping" because of their friends reaction to AHS. You're irrelevant, they're irrelevant and this thread is the reason Gaga cannot achieve the ultimate success. IF Beyonce was filming a movie, her fanbase would support and promote it. This fanbase questions everything and pretends to be professional managers. LMAO
