I mean MR was a US hit just before the cure and the cure could be classified as a hit in UK & AUS and some other places but yeah, if US radio etc are having a problem to play a song like the cure i don't see much else of her getting played. Still praying the updates will get better and the cure will be a hit though.

MR became a hit thanks to big promo and by the quality of the music itself. Million Reasons is genuinely a good quality song. So what I am saying is that quality songs still have potential to become hits as long as they are supported by radios and streaming services. But most quality songs aren't supported due to the fact that the artists making those songs are not cool or old, or the music is not trendy. Gaga was riding a huge wave of popularity and coolness thanks to the Superbowl. So lets just hopes it continues.

The single will flop, she doesn't have time to make any promo and I think she released just for fun, enjoy the music-a!

The Cure showed potential, but she is filming about about to go on tour so she hasn't really promoted it at all. All artists need promo. Magazine covers, advertisements, music videos, television performances, radio interviews.

I think she could still get a sizable hit if she released a single around award show period and heavily promoted it. Whether that's something she is interested in doing is another matter though.

You're thinking about things from a 2011 mindset. Cheerleader by Omi? was a huge hit that had no promo, and Drake songs rarely have promo. These are some recent smashes, and CTTR wasn't saved by these things.

Ageism is getting worse. Soon only teenage acts will be played on radio. ebPmIxT.gif

There are exceptions to ageism. For example, Sia is constantly getting supported by radio. But that is only because she is releasing trendy music and she is seen as cool by many people.

She presents a young "face" though with Maddie Ziegler. She hides behind her bangs or turns her face to the audience in her performances, if she released her music videos with close-ups and dance numbers like Gaga she wouldn't be getting support.

naah.. i dont think so i think Gaga will soon have again a big hit like bad romance, just dance, pokerface etc... it takes time and i think she should make a really good dance and summer song and she would be nr 1 again. Maybe the people she worked with yet just werent the right ones... i would like to see her work again with red one i think they just have amazing chemestry and ideas. :kara: he co produced gypsy and its one of my fav songs. also th ebiggest hits were those she worked with him.

That is a possibility.

Gaga does need a lot of promo mostly because she is not easily supported in today's market. So if she released an actual music video and performed The Cure at the Billboard Music awards the song chances could increase greatly. Gaga tends to make people like her songs just by performing them just because she is very talented.

But there are still many artists that don't do much promo and get easily supported due to their popularity and "cool" factor.

Gaga is just not 'cool' anymore and that's fine. Her career is just as successful as always, just in a different way. Achievements doesn't necessarily mean Top 10 hits - that's a very narrow way of thinking.

I am not saying that you only need hits to be successful. Just explaining my reasons behind the success of her singles. Gaga is actually still very successful in general. And she is one of the biggest artist of this year so far.

Sia makes pop music but she presents herself in a very indie way. I think Gaga needs to keep rebranding herself, trying new things which is what she's been doing for awhile now but maybe different kind of  presentation. Conventional pop girl presentation just doesn't work as it used too because it's not "cool" anymore. She needs to gain her "cool" factor back like before 2011. Rihanna still has that. Nicki is trying with renaming her fanbase to sound less "girly". She needs new young fans as well.

I completely agree with you.  If this song(even while it is discounted) can't be a hit, then nothing will...  :green:

Was waiting for somebody to say this.

How are you measuring her success though? I love Gaga, but not let's pretend she's half as big as she once was in most metrics.

I'm not saying she's as big as she was during 2009-2011 but there are so many great things that she did the last few years that not many artists, who are 'bigger' right now, could even wish doing. That's a success.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Yeah, but I wouldn't count on her performing at the BMA's or releasing an MV.  The Cure was a cute surprise release for Coachella, I never really expected much from it.

You can count the number of artists who can get a hit without promo on one finger, and it doesn't last like that forever.

Nah, there are going to be viral hits   but you can't sustain a career like that  Omi isn't going to spend his career releasing songs and having hits like Cheerleader. It was a gimmick song, they have always existed and they probably always will.

Drake is in a different position from Gaga. First of all he appeals to an urban market who consume music differently and generally have pretty devoted fans, but secondly he is just bigger atm.
