Why Does Gaga Feel So Far Removed From Her Contemporaries?

Regular people will tell you its because her contemporaries have outlasted her in terms of commerical success and relevancy meanwhile Gaga rose meteorically and tumbled meteorically.

Therefore when one thinks of big female pop stars, they think of Rihanna, Ariana, Beyonce, Taylor

Fans will tell you its because she's music not the bling and she's better than all of them and she's in her own league and she is her own contemporary etc

I feel like she does a better job communicating with other celebs than most tbh. It's just because we don't see her featured on other artists' songs and the fact she doesn't feature other artists on her songs that she seems disconnected. She always interacts with so many celebrities at the awards shows, especially more recently. Gaga seems like one of the most friendly with the most celebs idk

Hasn't she been telling us why from the start? She's always told us that it's okay to not fit in or be the most popular. Legit don't understand why this is an issue :madge:

I understand what you mean. I don't really position Gaga in the mainstream music landscape. I think it's largely due to her testament as an artist. She's so multifaceted that it's hard to ever group her collectively.

Gaga rarely works with her contemporaries either so this removes her from that landscape. As for publicity stunts like dating etc, she definitely does have them. They're just more incorporated into her performances and artwork (vomit, vma 2009). Not her private life. Another sign of a true artist really.

So yeah, I guess it can be frustrating if you want her to work with her contemporaries. I'd love a Rih collab tbh but I don't really mind that she doesn't either.  Not fitting in is one of the reasons I like her. :)

I know people on here will just say that she's in a level above people like the Weeknd and Ariana Grande, and I'm inclined to believe them, but at the same time not feeling like she's apart of the current pop music climate is so problematic. Today you need to do features, you need to stage publicity stunts with celebs like Selena with the Weeknd and Taylor's Hiddleston stunt, or the J.Lo/Drake fake relationship. Gaga just doesn't feel like she is apart of music anymore. I can't see her being friends with Rihanna like Katy and dating Orlando Bloom. Drake, Nicki and Rihanna have all collabed so their fanbases experience cross pollination, and get inflated. What went wrong?

Nothing went wrong, she's just not playing the usual pop industry games.  Obviously playing all those games is not important to her and what she wants to accomplish musically anymore or with her career.  I don't see it as problematic, just an indication that she considers herself as a musician, actress, and entertainer more than a "pop star."    90% of collabs have nothing to do with improving the songs and are simply marketing tools.  She basically quit doing that type of thing after Colby O'Donnis.  Now she collabs when she thinks it makes sense musically, rather than just to expand a fan base or ride the coattails of someone who is currently a hot commodity.

"I don't want to be part of the machine, I want the machine to be part of me." - Lady Gaga.

I think fans just have to learn to understand that for Gaga, being HBIC pop star is no longer her driving goal and she isn't going to play all the usual industry games, cross marketing, collabs, or trend riding that is being done by those whose only concern is pop music stardom.

Nothing about Gaga's career since TF is emblematic of somebody who is defined by the pop industry.   She changes too much, shifts genres too often, and generally just doesn't do the things that are expected for pop stars.   OTOH, Katy and Taylor are perfect examples of pop stars who design every step of their work with the intent of maintaining pop stardom.

Whispering

I don't think Gaga is the type to pretend to be friends with...date someone...for publicity, at least not at this point in her life.

You click who you click with. Gaga tends to click with more serious artists, and artists who are at a point in their life where they are settled with their goals and know why they are here.

Maybe she doesn't feel like she fits in with some of the people you listed or just doesn't click with them? Even then, there are other ways she has bonded with them on issues that are important to her- Selena and mental health, Katy and their political support, Kesha and dealing with past abuse. Not everything has to be a music collab.

Considering the GP elected Trump, I'm fine with Gaga not being big with them anymore.

a) she doesn't need to stage publicity to get people talking about her nor does she probably want to.

b) she has always always always been funny about collabs, she really has to feel a connection with someone to collab with them.

c) she gets on very well with her contemporaries but she just doesn't have them as friends thats all.

d) shes always been very introvert on the music scene, I suppose its just her as an artist.

but on another note I would love her to work with the weeknd. him and rihanna are the only people I really want a collab with, everyone else can choke.

It's not an "issue", it's just wierd how she's isn't categorized with the rest of the pop divas de spite being equally or more successful.

Because she wants to be an actress. She's not into the music scene anymore, that's pretty obvious from the way she's been handling Joanne.

I don't know if you are serious or not :air:
