I genuinely am shocked. Partly because it's doing better in the UK than it is in the US. The song's hovered between #29-#32 on UK itunes since its been released, it's just doing this strange little dance every few hours. This is despite the fact that Migos have never had a hit here, most of us don't even know who they are. But in the US, they had a big #1 last year and yet their presence on Katy's song not only fails to make it chart well, it falls out the chart completely within a week. The entire charting week of this song has made me feel like I'm living in a dream. I have never seen Katy flop harder than an indie artist with a second single. It's like watching the birth of a unicorn.

This is a bad news for Katy's future radio support. She unfortunately peaked very early in her career, commercially speaking. Teenage Dream achieved the unprecedented feat of (including the re-issue tracks) 6 #1's and 2 top tens in the US. That really sets up an artist to be expected to get #1's for the rest of their career. Prism was wildly successful with its singles by most people's standards, with 2 #1's, 2 top 20's and 1 top 40. But by Katy's standards, that was a big step down from Teenage Dream. To go from 6 #1's to just 2, to go from 2 top ten's to 0 top tens, to start getting top 20's and top 40's as a normal occurrence. That suggested that her next album was going to suffer an even bigger step down, potentially lacking so much as one #1. And so far, that has proved right. CTTR was the first lead single of hers not to go #1 in the US or the UK and this second single has flopped worldwide in its debut week. This is a step down and a half. When an artist has two consecutive underperforming singles, this is normally when radio stops playlisting them and if they do playlist your next single, they drop you as soon as you start to drop on the charts, their support might only last a week. Gaga's gone through that for a few years already. Katy is in for a rude awakening any day now.

I just want to know what caused this massive downturn for her. She didn't do anything controversial, she was never a polarising figure like Gaga. Was her support for Hillary what caused it? Because Gaga performed at her rally and was publicly anti-Trump for a while and she's doing much better commercially right now. So, is that really the reason behind it? Have people just got bored of Katy's pop style or think she's too old now and not cool anymore? Has she just had her time in the limelight and is just going to fade away for no apparent reason? I'd just like to know.

I thought it was a cute bop at first, but after listening to it a few times, I realized that I'm just not that interested in hearing Katy Perry sing about receiving oral sex. Maybe other people feel the same way.
