loathereality 26,395
ok, here is my issue. I love too many artists (e.g. lorde and lana) They obviously do not slay the charts, they are not played everwhere but I still love their music and enjoy listening to it. Love is my jam and it flopped, but i still like the song and idc about what gp thinks. Of course I love Gaga's music too. But I just hate her not slaying the charts. I honestly do not care if she earns more but she must be #1 everywhere like literally in every list out there. I do not have this ambition for anyone else. I know there are many fans in this forum who think just like me. Why do we have this attitude? Should we leave this attitude? Is this attitude because we want more people to like gaga or we want her to feel more success? Sorry for the really long text
Obman 773
My explanation for this is probably the same reason straight men like to root for certain sports teams. In this case, Gaga is our "hometown" team since she started off with all about the gayz and anti-bullying (especially with Born This Way). We want her to beat the rival teams so that she can win whatever series/bowl/conference (slay the charts for us). They have sports teams, we have pop stars
Kunst 201
Well... Competitions between fanbases over charts are at least partially about ourselves, aren't they? "We reached top 30 in Spotify". We talk of "us", sort of like football fans when they say they scored a goal, when it was actually their team. I don't think it's a bad thing, anyway. TeenIdle 126,586
Lorde and Lana were never really big on the charts, while Gaga was a force. I am now getting used to the idea that she's an artist like any other and not a global superstar. 𝖓𝖊𝖜 𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖎𝖔𝖓

moonpig8400 110
I get what you mean ! I think Lana Del Rey and Lorde are more relaxed chill artists... we never expected anything more from them, their work is great but they didn't hit like a COMET like Gaga. Gaga was like a pop warrior force of nature that burst into the charts and slayed everyone else out there. She was both different and artistic AND hugely popular which is a rare combination. She seemed to have the will to conquer great artistic / pop heights and be an ambitious artist. So it's jarring to see her no longer occupying that pop cultural space, like she took a fall from grace. I loved her being number 1 on everything as while she was hugely popular, lots of people found her weird and didn't know what to make of her, so I found it kind of SUBVERSIVE for her being number 1. It was CHALLENGING people, and exciting her being number 1. She's also much more ambitious and creative than other artists, so when she was becoming number 1 it was like a cultural EXPLOSION ! Artists like Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, One Direction, even Miley Cyrus, they're kind of boring and predictable/just pop, so when they're on top it doesn't feel so much of a cultural landmark being made, it's just catchy songs and strictly business. There IS something very different about Gaga....... I think maybe there's a feeling of validation for us who are different or feel different or weird, to see someone like GAGA at the top ! I think this is the one regard Gaga is similar to Madonna in (everything else is overblown, stylistically they're not really that similar, but where they are similar is that they were the BLONDE NOTABLE CHALLENGING QUEEN OF THEIR TIME, maybe like Marilyn Monroe before Madonna, touched a nerve with society). When they're on top they do AMAZING AND INTERESTING THINGS WHILE AT THE TOP that make everyone think (Madonna with religion and sexuality/how a woman should be, Gaga with exploding in as a weird pop star crazy robot woman from outer space, a different kind of woman too, surprising all society). Also I think more simply like the other poster said about sports stars, we simply like to route for our favourite 😛
