It just sounds like what you were telling me is that if I don't like this song from Katy, I shouldn't like Gaga either because Gaga has bad songs too.

Idk, Katy just isn't my type of music?? It's too bubblegum for me.

Oh I absolutely do not enjoy Katy nor have I ever bought any of singles or albums, but I just didn't think the song was terrible since all are songs are too bubblegum immature pop for me, I was trying to say that it sounds like typical Katy

Fans like to ignore that their fave also have bad songs. The only difference is that Gaga won't release something like that as a single, and Katy did. Bon-whatever is just as bad as Donatella.

Donatella isn't that bad, and it's fun to listen to it and sing along the lyrics.
"... you just had a salat today, boulangerie ..."
But I agree it's somehow trashy

Wow, I logged on and went to look at the position of the song in the UK, predicting that it would be in the lower regions of the top ten, #8-#10 at best and at the absolute worst, #11-#13. But no, it's #20 with a bright red update and I just refreshed it to see it has a pink update with another 5 points dropped. And this is with a song that's currently trending at #4 on YouTube. This is really shocking and unprecedented. I thought the Migos feature would keep the public interested for at least a week. This is bad news for her. Even The Cure is doing better than this in its third week with no UK promo. To think, it went to #1 upon release and stayed there for about 4 days, with a Coachella performance! And even though her last 3 songs flopped here and she hasn't had a top ten since 2013! But Katy's last single went to #5 and stayed in the top ten for a few weeks, so she should be doing so much better than this. This shows how much even Katy's own fans aren't getting into it. Fans of mainstream pop acts always support the pre-album singles, even if they don't like them because they have to keep their fave successful. They heavily supported all her lead singles, but CTTR's support was nowhere near as strong and by the looks of things, they're not even forcing themselves to like this song. If she flops with this, this will be the second album in a row where she failed to reach the top 20 with a second single (Unconditionally peaked at #25 in the UK and BA looks set to peak even lower). I really underestimated the public on this one. Even they aren't standing for music this bad.

Can someone explain to me the decay of katy's music?

Who did she piss off in the industry? I thought she was a good songwriter, she wrote dark horse.

She seems like she's fighting for scraps, and she's katy perry, i don't understand.??

That's what I was thinking. She's not the world's best songwriter but she can do better than this. Max Martin co-wrote 7/8 singles from TD, all of them decent-amazing and all of them mega-hits and he also co-wrote every single on Prism, and while the quality of the songs wasn't as top notch, at least 2 of them were mega-hits. But the 3 singles he's co-written since (Rise, CTTR and BA) have either underperformed, flopped or had negative reception. Plus, Rise was the only one I truly liked. I used to love Max Martin's efforts, they were commercial but good commercial. But I don't know why his work with her has been steadily falling post-TD. Indeed, this song sounds like an undercooked single that gets passed off on a C-list popstar, not a pop heavyweight like Katy. It does feel like she is fighting for scraps, as you said. It's like her songwriting team couldn't be bothered. And this track had a lot of writers for something so simple.

No Dr Luke. He made every single one of her hits. She replaced him with Max Martin, who's retro fuzzed out beats are awesome, but aren't current at all. Combined with no Bonnie McKee and Dr Luke lyrics, we have these tepid but catchy singles.

True, she didn't have Luke and Bonnie this time, but she still has Max. He's been there from the beginning. He wrote I Kissed A Girl and Hot n Cold from her debut, 7/8 singles from TD and some non-singles too, all of the singles from Prism and some non-singles. He most recently wrote Rise, CTTR and BA, only one of them being a halfway decent hit. Max has been as much of a part of her success as Luke and Bonnie have been. Max is still making hits for other artists to this day and he's had success with Katy in the past, so why not now? So, I think it goes deeper than the absence of Luke and Bonnie. The biggest issues are that Katy's fanbase has outgrown her somewhat, her success with generic pop music has already been waning for a while and she's already reached the peak of popstardom and is now experiencing the inevitable downfall.

Either way, that's her choice to serve her crotch to someone and letting them go wild, not ours. If that's what she likes doing sexually, I don't think we should be knocking her for it. Maybe I've been listening to so much CupcakKe that this song seems innocent in comparison but I really don't think this song is that big a deal tbh.

People can say similar things about DWUW. I know DWUW is about having artistic integrity and people using her image but there's totally a double meaning and she showed that during her performances of it on SNL and on the AMAs. My interpretation of that song when it first came out was her letting someone do what they want sexually with her without any of her emotions getting involved.

I think it's hypocritical for us to lay into Katy for these lyrics, if you're gonna judge the song, judge it based on the way it sounds or the corniness of the lyrics, adding more negative meaning to a fun song about your person of interest giving you head is unnecessary.

Personally I think the song is funny and the instrumental is incredible especially when it gets to the second chorus around 2:09. :rockstar:

And don't think of this as an attack on you, that's the last thing I want this to be, just a lil debate. :hor:

I don't mean offence here, but it's kinda difficult for a man to understand what a woman hears when we hear songs like this. So many men have told me over the years that raunchy lyrics are no big deal but they are a big deal when women are expected to live up to them in real life and have to deal with men verbally expressing similar things to them. It's not that I'm against sexual songs, but I much prefer them when the woman shows a real strength in her lyrics. This is coming from a woman who enjoys being submissive. But I think it's very important to save this side for the bedroom. In everyday situations, you have to show intelligence, strength, dignity, self-respect. Otherwise, you don't stand a chance of men treating you right. And contrary to what so many of these female singers seem to think, just because a man orally pleasures you does not mean that he respects you or you have power over him. Plenty of sexists and misogynists aren't opposed to oral sex. It's all about their own thrills when they do it, not the woman's. And this song isn't all about a man giving a woman oral sex, that's just one line, the rest of the song is about a woman letting a man have his way with her however he wants to fulfill his own pleasure and even states "I'm open 24, wanna keep you satisfied, customer's always right." You really don't see how lyrics like this can be highly offensive to a woman listening to it and that they provide a harsh reminder of what's expected of her?

There's fun sex songs out there but this isn't one of them. This is the kind of song that takes gender equality back, not forward, for it reinforces old female gender roles, not new ones. This is just the same old sexist objectification where a woman serves herself up to men, completely caters to them and rarely, if ever, mentions anything about her own pleasure. Even subs know how important that last part is.

I'm curious. How is it charting?

I've just looked up its positions in the world top 10 major music markets. I can't find the South Korean charts, but here's the other 9, from best to worst:

Brazil - #3 (light red update)

Canada - #17 (light red update)

Italy - #18 (light red update)

UK - #20 (dark red update)

Australia - #20 (dark green update)

US - #22 (dark red update)

France - #32 (neutral update)

Germany - #33 (dark red update)

Japan - #87 (dark red update)

Jesus Christ. Only one positive update, one neutral update and the rest are negative. So, even in markets where it's doing good, it's falling. The US, Canada, UK and Australia are some of Katy's biggest markets too. And this is just the biggest markets I'm looking at. She's doing ok in some other Latin American countries and in a handful of Asian countries, but she's barely charting top ten anywhere. And despite the Bon Appetit title, France and Canada aren't exactly crazy for it either.

Seriously, I feel sorry for Katy, not even kidding. Even if I didn't think the song would do this bad. No matter what you think of her, this is a terrible start for a second single, especially the follow-up to one that was a decent top ten worldwide. I genuinely feel for her. This makes me think of AP all over again, only it's happening to someone else this time.

Edit: Well nevermind, there is a thread for the solo version now, I'll just go there

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

Wow. That's so bad. Hope she didn't take it too hard on herself.

I actually dig this. She's finally put out something somewhat edgy and non-generic. I understand not everyone can like this but kudos to her anyway.
