drinkmytears 2,332
Groundbreaking post... Some people actually wouldn't like Chained To The Rhythm no matter who put it out? 911 16,707
CTTR is still a bad song and Katy is still trying to hard, which came out really cringe-worthy 𝕞𝕪 𝕓𝕚𝕘𝕘𝕖𝕤𝕥 𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕞𝕪 𝕚𝕤 𝕞𝕖, 𝕡𝕠𝕡 𝕒
Edonis 28,950
If anything I think stan wars/culture are ruining the pop music industry in general. Compare the online environment 10 years ago to now and it's much more divided, way more personal, and certainly gives a bad reputation for the genre and artists. Anyone who doesn't think petty stan wars doesn't matter should probably see how the media turned on ARTPOP and Gaga in 2013; much of that was filed by stan comments and Perez Hilton (who is the defintion of toxic pop stan culture). It's pretty bad actually.
Fingerella 3,170
I totally agree with you! I honestly think Stans are either kids going through puberty or lonely young adults.
DeanWinchester 41,390
It also prevents pop stars from reaching full potential because everybody is dragging every body else Flyin' like a 1000 Doves
Kayla 7,595
On one hand, social media and forums have been good because it allows fans to interact regularly and for information about the artist to be spread in a wider variety of ways. I mean, before you had to wait for an interview to be released, for something to air on TV, and being part of a "fan club" didn't mean frequent conversations on the scale like we see online nowadays. So in that sense, it is easier for fans of the artist to have their fandom be more accessible, and they don't have to rely on just whatever the media puts out to shape their idea of an artist. However, this also makes people less appreciative of what they do get. People used to line up outside record stores with fans to buy an album, then they'd listen to it in its entirety together. Nowadays that kind of culture isn't very present. And a lot of music isn't about art anymore - it's about business. And that's rubbing off on fans - instead of enjoying the music they're concerned about how the rest of the world will buy it. So people who really care and aren't willing to sacrifice their integrity to 'make it big' often don't get as far. But "stan wars" or feuds between artists existed long before now - now we just have more access to it, tbh, and the fans feel entitled to the artist, not appreciative of the art itself. juju 18,907
Stan culture is the cancer of social media. It's disgusting that we're expected to "pick sides", like hun I'm going to have my cake and eat it too. ❤ x ❤
shame 25,360
I don't understand the comparisons with the Chainsmokers tbh. To me, The Cure looks more like it's taking cues from JB. angels forever, forever angels

heygirl 842
Yes you have a very valid point. Today, music is being "polluted" in a sense by the downgrading language fans use to pit artists against each other instead of accepting, and enjoying both. To me, (and this is changing, which I'm a little worried about) Little Monsters have always been the more loving fans, but when we trash other pop singers, in fact we're the ones ruining our own image... I always try to listen to the music, and then decide if it's worth my attention or not, not based on the artists performance ability or bullshit hollywood gossip. (yes i'm critic when it comes to other artists but say when chained to the rhythm came, i didn't immediately say 'no' to it because of katy's shade to gaga or her awful live performances.) idk if im making sense, but i just encourage everyone to stay open minded. thats all. be kind guys
Benji 20,113
It's not stans, the internet, pop music or the current period of time, it's just people in general. Rock fans, sports fans... it's all the same. Just sit back, enjoy what you do and choose how you express yourself over what you love and hate. Pop Stars have to have very thick skin because of rude stans.
Killa 17,461
Internet just exposing human nature it's not just pop music, it's metal music (those are so nasty too, and think they're so smart) hell even classical music. If someone degrades Maria Callas, an army raises against etc. This whole stan thing is older than old. Like really old, not even 20th century old. In my opinion, I feel that Pop stans tend to ruin the pop music experience. It's so tiring seeing everyone choose sides and hating on others for their opinions because of who they stan. Right now, it feels as if Katy is getting the brunt of the hate on social media. While I'm guilty of hating on her new single cover, it still upsets me seeing people hating the song before they have even heard it (a 9 second snippet doesn't count). On twitter, it's almost like a Stan war zone between fandoms. It's fandom war zone. Like if Gaga Released Chained To The Rhythm, YOU ALL WOULD LOVE IT. But because it's Katy, it's automatic No from a lot of you. We care WAY too much about being a fan of someone that we actually feel guilty for listening to certain artists. And if The Chainsmokers released The Cure with a different singer, y'all would hate it! We have to stop looking at music as a way to fight with one another and try to have it bring us together. Pop music is all about having fun and experimenting with new trends and ideas... We all should atleast try to stop attacking artists who try new images and ideas. I've really been trying to get myself out of it, personally. I used to hate Katy just because she was a competing artist to Gaga; once I got out of that, I really started to enjoy her music and new music in general! Stop the Stan Drama and Start the Pop Music!! Totes agree with you, stop the drama. Except you have one HUGE problem with your initial post. Gaga releasing CTTR? Please...
