Meeh anything on joanne would have flopped the same way, the album was severely under promoted

MR would've been a platinum Top 10. Which it became anyway thanks to SB. But it would've done it without all of the promotion it got if PI didn't come first.

I agree internationally she was doomed from the start since MR was the only hit on the record, but then the country twist made it toxic in most markets on radio.

Reported for what? Calling people out on dragging another artist? I though flamebait was actual warning points worthy. Not calling people out for it :oprah:

Joanne still sold well though and I think will be remembered positively years down the road.

Im not saying it was a bad song, but it was a bad single choice.

I disagree with this.

First, what were they supposed to release? Million Reasons, a ballad? Dancin In Circles, a song about touching yourself as a lead for an album about her dead family member? A-YO, a snoozefest?

Secondly, it wasn't even a choice. The label asked Gaga to work with Tame Impala because they didn't see any potential singles on the album and "Perfect Illusion" was designed and recorded specifically to be a lead single.

Thirdly, yes, it may have bombed sales-wise but we don't know how much it helped sell the album. There's no way the album sold 200k+ first on its own. The song might have not connected with radio listeners and Spotify streamers but I'm sure the fact that the lead was produced with Tame Impala (aka """real""" musicians) attracted a lot of album buyers.

If he can't sell his own records, why would he be able to push Gagas Record?

Yes, let's talk in 4 days when the Cure is probably out of top 100 on iTunes US while BA is probably somewhere around 25 lol.

MR's instant #1 after Carpool Karaoke and its comparative callout scores makes it clear it should have been first.

Regardless, the album went #1, sold over 500k, had a Top 5 million selling single, and got her SB/Coachella. I doubt she'd go back and change anything with that result, so everyone walks away happy.

I do think she recognized it wasn't radio ready and that's where TC came from. She likes being different, but she also likes being relevant.

Mr was a us hit only which happened thanks to the SB. i refuse to believe a radio station would play her after the first week if it wasnt for the universal acclaim and constant discounts making the song number on itunes. I think ppl were interested in the song but radio wasnt with her until early 2017. A shame.
