Again, it's because of the 2nd single release.   It was growing steadily on radio until the label informed the radios that the 2nd single is coming soon, then it started with the -5M AI daily tumble

Other songs just don't drop that fast, like ever. Second single or not. I recognize that was the impetus for the label to just completely stop promoting it, but radio doesn't ever drop songs that quickly that are hits, regardless of lack of promotion.

Regardless, Applause is not a flop, CTTR is not a flop.

That is not consistent with what i said in your quote. You are just restating your position and talking past me.

Whether or not I think that wasn't the point I was making though. I try to keep those things to myself because I don't want unnecessary WPs.

Like I said, Spotify approached Katy and offered support. They will do everything they can to make her single perform extremely well at least in their platform. CTTR was in A LOT of playlists that even when it was getting awful callout scores and was not being bought by the public--Spotify was spouting some **** about her breaking records. Why? Because they chose her as their muse. If she falls, their brand is damaged, too.

Legitimate points. Katy has traditionally been a huge artist, so she gets deals like this for her lead single. Now that it's flopped, it remains to be seen whether companies like Spotify will be as willing to make that investment again.

Just for the record, I happen to be a Katy Perry fan, and I happen to like cttr. When I say it is a flop, I'm literally just staying my perception of the numerical reality as a music industry nerd.

They're already putting up banners for her single dropping midnight so yes. They are :awkney:

Free reminder that the following countries are going to update their official charts today (the parenthesis shows TC's debut position):

Finland (#2)
Germany (#79)
Ireland (#53)
Italy (#36)
New Zealand (#43)
Scotland (#4)
Sweden (#99)
United Kingdom (#23)

How do you know this? Do you maintain a list of every country's music charts and when they update?

Guys, today I was on the subway and this fabulous woman sitting next to me was jamming to TC so loud I could hear it through her earphones. :diane: I was YAASing so hard internally.

The original deal might have covered multiple singles. Also, I think it is still reasonable for them to expect a Katy Perry song to be big. One flop doesn't change dozens of hits in her back catalogue. And fairly consistent hits.

So, Luis Fonsi just sang the original version of Despacito for the first time in the US on Billboard Awards Latino. Then they played the FIFA World Cup commercial with the song right after when they went to break. I wonder if it will help with iTunes.  As if it needs it.
