No, if you've ever taken an econ class EVER you would know that $15 an hour is a really bad idea.

it would take yearrrrsss to get there through stages. I've lived on my own on low wage jobs, and I'd still barely make it at $15. It needs to happen. It would be fine.

Don't other countries have it and they're fine? :green:

In fact, I remember a member here telling us that they work at McDonald's in Australia making around $17 an hour (and they started at $15) and there's no Earth shattering consequences. Hell, the food there is cheaper than it is here and employees here are paid half as much.

$15 an hour is a fine idea. The only people that absolutely hate it are the CEO's that give themselves 15 million dollar pay raises rather than providing their employees with a livable wage.

I'm all about practicality and I don't see anything impractical about fighting for this. If someone has a full time job, they shouldn't be below the poverty line and having to get government assistance to live

No, if states set a $15 an hour minimum wage employers would have to pay their employees more, and then either one of two things would happen. 1. Prices of goods and services would sky rocket so that businesses can make up for the increased wages or 2. they would have to lay off tons of employees to keep prices low and keep production costs down.

this headline is clickbait, the rate of employment is still rising, but slowed. Which is not even close to laying off tons of employees.

I see what you're trying to say but you have to take into account that Australian currency and American currency are completely different. The Australian dollar is worth less than the American dollar. Also, McDonalds, WalMart, ect. aren't jobs that are supposed to provide you with enough money to provide a generous lifestyle with your family, they're meant as an entry level job that provides teenagers with experience. The reason CEO's make so much money is because they worked their a**es to to get in the position that they're in and ultimately they have to make the tougher decisions in order to keep businesses up and running giving people jobs.

I don't buy this one  You don't work your ass off and then decide to pay yourself millions of times more than you pay your employees. That's not you getting what you deserve, that's you being greedy as f*ck.

And what about the unfortunate people that get stuck doing those jobs for the rest of their lives because they couldn't afford college, training, or they could never get another job? Are they just supposed to resign themselves to poverty because the CEO's don't believe in spreading the wealth around? They'd rather keep every penny that they can in their own pocket? :hmm:

This goes far above economy's head, this is simple greed imo  You're a CEO, great, you deserve a six figure salary, but to pay yourself literally millions of times more than your employees while they have to rely on things like WIC and Welfare to live even though they work full time for you? That's indefensible greed :laughga:

Steve Jobs ($10.2 billion): Created 627,000+ jobs

Bill Gates ($87.7 billion): Created 14.7+ million jobs

Larry Page ($42.2 billion): Created 54,604+ jobs

Gordon Bowker ($12.7 billion): Created 150,000+ jobs

Just a few examples... but I guess they're being greedy :classy:

Gaga Monster

As a business owner and friend of multiple business owners, if the minimum wage raises to $15 we would be forced to fire employees.  We make barely a profit now because of high taxes, fees, and regulations. Ridiculous bill, this bill will kill businesses and employees will be fired

It's kind of like when Republicans voted for the repeal of Obamacare 60 times while Obama was president.  Kind of a waste of time.  This is why Bernie didn't win, he puts principle ahead of practicality which means you lose.

whats unpractical about raising the minimum wage? its IMPOSSIBLE to live off even 3 minimum wage jobs. its more than practical and its long overdue

So they're using the money anyway is what I'm hearing :green:

Instead of paying it into the federal government to give to their employees, why not cut out the middle man and just give them all raises until they can live on what they work for?
