Well yes, if that road is still possible, it is the best path to stay on. But if an immediate risk and call to action is required, world leaders (specifically the USA) would be in a tough spot. If NK is posing a threat to the greater-LA area, obviously the President would take immediate action without hesitation. However, if an immediate threat is imminent to South Korea (55 million people), it is not as clear-cut as to wether the US should take action.

Well China might try to protect them. They don't want it to be destabilized.

I know China traditionally protects NK but if NK attacks SK and kills millions, then I doubt China would side with them. Especially because literally no other nation on earth would.

China doesn't want a US-minded country on their borders. They would push for (a) re-installment of a pro-Chinese dictature (hence why Kim's half-brother was murdered: he was China's reserve-dictator, to keep Kim Il-Sung's bloodline because most north Koreans would accept that). If that doesn't work out they would push for (b) expanding China as far to South Korea as possible. It wouldn't be a Korean war 2.0

And don't underestimate Russia's ties with North Korea. Russia has more ties to North Korea than China these days.

In all those senarios China doesn't side with North Korea

That's short-term. Long-term you want to make sure that:

- nobody hostile gets access to the nuclear weapons

- China doens't want a Western-minded government

- South Korea doesn't want a hostile government

- no 20M refugees from North Korea entering China

- US needs a good excuse for all their military presence there as it's also of strategic importance for other purposes (like China and the seas there)

It is unbelievable that in this day and age we are still at the mercy of world dictators who just act like they are playing a game of chess but with blood and lives. The blood of the world is on everyone's hands. We all should be above these same old moves and should respect our precious humanity. All of the leaders of the world make me sick.

On the US side we have a dumb orange, on the NK side we have a men with the mind of a baby that follows his dad's steps in making his country a cult. And they have the power to trigger a war.
