Based just off of my initial reactions to both songs (since I recall both) -

With Perfect Illusion, I was immediately dancing in my seat and enjoying it with a wide smile on my face. It wasn't true bubblegum pop, or the kind of stuff which had been on the radio. It was an uptempo, temperamental disco-rock song, and I appreciated that. I thought it was not really that Gaga, and I had some (later valid) trepidation about its possible performance as a single, but I enjoyed the new direction.

With The Cure (as new as it is), when I learned it was to be a single for commercial consumption, I immediately felt less excitement and even disappointment. It has obvious dancehall influences and sounds more like her 2007-8 work - an ARTPOP/Fame b-side revamped for 2017. While I enjoyed the song mostly for the novelty and unexpected debut, musically I thought it was cute but not great, and appropriate for a one-off or fan-oriented cherry on top of the Coachella performance. I'd rather have had a new Joanne single.

Perfect Illusion is definitely one of my favourite Gaga songs. I like The Cure, but... yeah.

The Cure is cute, but Perfect Illusion is amazing.  Perfect illusion left me with this high rush energy after the first time i heard it.

THIS.

It makes me sad that the Joanne era is done. It was so unique and special..

I guess I'll have to stick on my imaginary music video for ayo and dic......

For me, my imaginary music videos are

Dance in the Dark
Government Hooker
Scheiße
Heavy Metal Lover
Venus
Do What U Want (that isn't infested by rapists)
Diamond Heart
A-Yo
Dancin' in Circles

DIC deserved to be a single.

Perfect Illusion is explosive, emotional, and high adrenaline - but comes off as screamy and angry.

The Cure is a mellow pop bop that is catchy and fun, but can come off as "generic and manufactured" because it plays on current tropical house trends.

which do you think would have been a better lead and why?

you should create a poll between DIC and the Cure!
