They vote for whoever has an R next their name. In France you've also got a similar party for mainstream conservatives, but that party is seperate from Le Pen's party. There's no 'coming home', most will stay home or vote with great hesitation for either side. In previous elections (for example provincial), socialists and republicans united and got 60%+ of the vote to make sure the FN doesn't make it. Guest
21 hours ago, Luc said: For the economy, I sort of agree with you. Unemployment is too high in France right now. That doesn't mean you should lower taxes, though! Remember that lower taxes means less money for healthcare, education, green energy, public facilities and social security. Lower taxes does not equal more economic growth. Universal income would fix the welfare problem, by the way. Right now, there's welfare options that pay better or almost as good as a job. With a universal income, you create incentive for those people to work, because instead of going from 1000€ welfare to 1200€ job (basically +200€), you go from 1000€ welfare to 1000+1200€ welfare+job. This will make working more attractive for people who are currently on welfare. That's not to say that a minimum income is risky and might cause high inflation and high debt.. But to lower unemployment in France, I think there's two options. One is a big stimulus (spending/investment) package, and another is market liberalisation. Stimulus package would lead to higher debt, market liberalisation would lead to higher inequality and might actually make most French people poorer. I don't know which one would be the best for France, but that's essentially the left-right divide. As for burkinis and burqas: be honest - how many times do you see a burkini or burqa and how much does it directly affect you? Now think - how much does the economy, healthcare, education, euro and infrastructure directly affect you? I get that it's uncomfortable to see someone wear something like that, but it should not be a reason to vote for a side. There's so many important issues, and burqas/burkinis are only a minor one (and as far as I know, the president has no influence over burkinis in France - that's for local governments to decide). Now radical Islam is an important issue. I just don't see how a right-wing government would do more about radical islam than a left-wing government could. It's all talk. Their actual proposals don't really do anything good for safety. If you want to make sure people don't radicalize, you have to give them jobs and a good public atmosphere. Polarisation from Le Pen/Fillon isn't going to contribute to a better atmosphere, it might actually make more people radicalize. But then again, you're 100 times more likely to die from a car crash than from radical Islam.. There's flaws with the EU, but leaving is not the solution. Instead you should vote for someone who wants to reform it from within. If you're against the system, remember that Fillon and Le Pen love the system and abuse it at every possible opportunity. Leaving the EU would lead to economic decline, especially because France is a Euro member. Let's also remember that before the EU, European countries were constantly at war. Millions and millions of people died because of wars between France and Germany. That could happen again if they became more independent. Another thing is (imo) that now we can see Brexit happen. We will soon see the true economic benefits of the EU. Leaving now would be a bad - it's way better to wait to see the results in the UK. If France left, it would be like testing whether a gun works on two people rather than just one. I think France has way too much taxes, I don't know if you're french but you would know how many different taxes there is, and I think that if you stop taxing start ups, businesses won't leave. One other thing about Europe is that businesses take advantage of it, they move their business to Romania because it's cheaper, or Poland, any where in Europe where the main d'oeuvre is cheaper than in France, the result is that french people lose their jobs because companies leave France one by one. In some ways I get it, you get more benefits somewhere else than here, I feel like in this country it's impossible to be an entrepreneur, and there's this culture here of hating the rich, the businessman, there's this idea of redistribution of wealth important especially when you listen to Mélenchon, Hamon or Nathalie Arthaud, but at this point we're in right now, we need them because they're the ones who create jobs and now they're all gone. They need to ask themselves why? I'm not economist, never been to a prestigious school, they did and yet it's as though it never occured to them that maybe it's because of Europe? Or the high taxes making it impossible to start a business, to keep a business, and gain something out of it? Wild guesses here. I don't think the country needs an incentive for people to work, I think some people wanna work or else they wouldn't be so angry and protest about it, french people want their job back, and an universal income can't change anything if no employers wanna employ. By the way, we also have the RSA, allocation familiale, and so on and on, we got the chômage which gives you a certain great amount of money when you're laid off, we don't need an universal income AGAIN, we already have so many different system to help people in need, and we have no budget anymore for it to be effective it would be a nightmare financially. By the way to be really HONEST, I see burqas at least 5 times a day, and no exaggeration and to me it's not about being hateful towards a community, my family a muslim (I choose no religion), my family used to be immigrants, it's not about racism, it's about radical islam, like I said burqa is a cultural clothing that comes from the middle east it's not about islam, it has no place in Europe, or in France. Why? Because it promotes and spreads radical islam in a lot of ways, how? It's not just a clothe, it's a false symbol of what islam is supposed to be. Most of the women by the way who wear burqas in France are young women, highly influencable, never made their research, high chance they read it from the internet, got their education from the internet. It's dangerous in my opinion to be liberal about things that are obviously not normal. We have in France, since Najat Vallaud, minister of Education, A LOT of illegal school that teaches islam (extremist type of islam that teaches that music is a sin, girls should stay with girls, boys with boys, they learn the qu'ran, they learn arabic, the little girls wear the veil) there are imams in mosquees that preaches radical islam. I just want you to understand where I'm coming from because France is not like any other country, it's as though everyone has a 70% risk of cancer, but we have a small cancer growing already and if we don't do anything about it, it'll spread, so big one day that who knows how it's going to be. That's why I don't wanna be politically correct and say, "burqas are great, people are free to wear it", burqas are symbolic of something, it comes from countries that are anti-gay, anti-democracy, no freedom of choosing your religion, freedom of speech. What I also find striking is how in France you can also see a lot of women wearing burqas with their husband wearing a beard, where does it stem from? Radical islam, does it mean those people are bad? Maybe not, maybe yes, but it stems from radical islam, it didn't appear in 1945, if you look at muslims in the 1950s in Egypt, Syria, Morocco, nobody wore veils, then they did, and now ever since terrorism started people start wearing burqas and growing beards, you just have to wonder why sometimes. I think it's way healthier to ask why than to be scared of being a 'racist', it's not racism, it's an ideology problem it's the mind we ask about, not people. And right-wing government is more apt to do something about it than left-wing because they aren't scared of being PC, that's it. And France is already in economic decline because in Europe all we've done is giving, helping other countries rise, while we go down in the trash. Leaving is the best option, maybe reforming it if we have more advantages but I don't know how that would work.
