Interesting to see how this pans out. So much money goes to taxes, so it's refreshing to see it used to better the community. 

From what I understand it's free for anyone coming from a family that makes less then 125k. Regardless of how many kids you have.

Good, I have gotten to tell my parents about that yet lol. I'm sure they'll happy as hell. My mom almost cried with joy over the free college thing as it is. She'll be very happy to hear about the tax cut.

Well, it gradually is supposed to reach 125K but in the article it said its starting at 100K (or so I interpreted). I was just curious if family size came into play. Let's say it is 125K, if you have four kids you're going to put through college and you make 125.5K and I have one kid to put through college and I make 124.9K...well, I'd say you're kind of getting screwed by the deal? Then again, I guess you can't confirm that all 4 children would actually go to college in-state, if at all. Anyways, it will be interesting to see if this can be an example for other states down the road.

Also, curious as I didn't see this, for students who are tens of thousands of dollars in debt due to student loans after graduating in-state from a public NY institution...are they eligible for any loan forgiveness through this law? I'd hope there'd be some money set aside to help those who have already been through the system.

Oh yeah, it'll be 125k by 2019. My dad retired recently so my family will be just barely below the limit. 

Yeah I agree problems could arise from this. I do think this is better than nothing tho.

No, that's one of the controversial aspects of the proposal. I agree that they should've done that but you can only milk tax payers so much.

Yea, but I think they could benefit from started out in a tier system...if it makes sense. Anyone under 60K its free, anyone under 100K it's not to exceed 20K in tuition, and anyone under 125K its not to exceed 30K in tuition. Then anyone with outstanding loans from attending an in-state NY public university since 2000 gets tax breaks or partial loan forgiveness. Then gradually phase in the free college for anyone below 125K in a few years.

Yes I work extremely hard for my money and get taxed a lot as well. This isn't an option where I live but the tax money gets used for homes for the homeless, public hospitals ...etc So I don't mind. 

When that becomes available. I wouldn't mind either and I can't think of a single person i know who would mind. People deserve a chance. 

This 'it's not my problem' mentality is very selfish.
