Upon pondering which pop-divas I equally admire and adore as much as Kylie Minogue, while there are a few, I am a huge fan of Mexican superstar and (the true) chameleon Gloria Trevi. Trevi's career spans from 1989 to present day and includes two films, a biopic (Gloria, available on Netflix), ten studio albums, and several hit singles. She was a groundbreaking lyricist and talent in 1990s Mexico, challenging several political and social norms. Her personal life is of interest too, as she spent two years evading the police and eventually spent nearly five years in jail before her charges were dismissed. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with Stockholm syndrome by many psychologists who analyzed her actions in relation to her abusive producer and ex-husband, Sergio Andrade, who remains behind bars. Her pre-jail career's massive success continued after her release and she remains one of the most popular singers in Mexico today. Schedule As of right now, this is just a 'feeler'. I know this forum has several users from Mexico and other parts of Latin America, so I'm interested to know if this would be of any interest. Of course, for those who are not familiar with her work...this would be a great opportunity to dip into her iconic musical career. When coined the 'Mexican Lady Gaga' by reporters in 2010, Trevi corrected them and said 'no, Lady Gaga is the American Gloria Trevi'. Her career and style mixes a bit of Courtney Love, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and others into one iconic pioneer of the music industry. While Trevi's career certainly warrants a Top 50, since she is lesser known I have decided, should this move forward, to limit the ranking to 25 songs with a 5 song honorable mention. Like the Kylie Minogue ranking, there will be lots of commentary and a Spotify Playlist (with 50 songs total) to enjoy!
