This is actually a shitty list.

Yet I'm kind of amazed Gaga even got as high as she did on this shitty list. She released her first song in three years, after  ARTFLOP, and the song itself is the opposite of what's popular right now.

So all things considered, this is actually good news.

PS let's not fight over legends. Every legend is legendary in their own way. No two legends have the same attributes which make them a legend. A legend to one (or most) might not be a legend to others (or all).

I came here angrily to post that Leonard Cohen has been a legend since the day he was born, but I agree with you. There is no point in fighting over legends, it's subjective.

Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, just a few people who are legends without great chart success.

I think you are mistaking "icons/artistic muses/pioneers" with legends.

Kate bush, Bjork etc are ICONS, artistic muses for many artists and are pioneers in their genres of music. They are not legends. Legends need to be known and recognized by the public instantly. Madonna, Michael, Prince, George Michael, Celine, David Bowie, Queen, Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston etc...those are legends. And guess what? They had many hits spread out through out the years and many career peaks and re peaks (some more then others). Gaga is in a downward trajectory. She is holding on and doing good. But she is in no way on the road to legendhood just yet. This can easily change with enough effort from her team. To be a legend you need to be remembered and the way that generally happens is by having hits spread out through out the years. Not massive #1 hits..just good top 10 hits every now and then and some healthy album sales. Gaga is doing that to an extent but she also needs to adapt with other metrics of calculating success in our times such as streaming and touring (which she has slipped on both). We will see how her touring figures boast at the end of the Joanne era and how her total streams are but for now Gaga is heading more in the "icon" range then the legend range and there is NOTHING wrong with that. It's just we can't be delusional anymore. The word legend is tossed around a little too often now a days. If you take a look at the artists I've mentioned you'd see that Gaga does not fit there just yet. I have faith that she will get there eventually but her team really needs to work harder.

Also Kate Bush and Bjork have been insanely critically acclaimed for a long long time. None of Gaga's records have been universally acclaimed (TFM being her highest scored album) and only a few of Gaga's records have been accredited with having some form of impact on pop culture. Totally different situations and totally different artists. If anything we can say that Kate and Bjork are "underground legends" that have oddly seeped into the GP's consciousness occasionally I guess?

We're talkin the same old **** after all of these years.

So ok, I think we can agree that Gaga is not in her most successful moment, right? That her chart dominance last like only 3 years right? These 2 may be a facts, the rest are just opinions.

I wish she's here to stay. She has proved wrong so many people. To me me she's a legend because she changed pop in a certain way. There's pop before Gaga and pop before her. She changed and saved music videos. She changed and ruled  fashion  for a while.

The  there's her raw talent. There are better dancers, better voices or better composers but she is very good at these and almost nobody can say the same.

She lost her way with/ in ARTPOP. I think she has to struggle with addictioms only few know about. But she can come back bigger than ever if she wants.  25h is kind of depressing when you were #1, but the most important: she's not done yet.

In adittion let's say for one of the most iconic pop artists of the last decade in terms of music videos, PI and MR are very uninspired and boring.  Not what you expect from her at all JW is more Gaga but the song is her weakest single yet if...  is it the third single after all?
