It was ok. Β I feel like the Ariana feature was a little unnecessary.Β

What is this mess? I don't see this becoming a hit at all. Its debuted at #8 on UK itunes but I'm sure that'll change as the week goes on. He's really shooting himself in the foot by releasing so many songs right now. It means by the time the album comes out, no one will be interested. He's looked really desperate following up his one-month-old single now. Since when did Calvin start being a bit avant garde? It doesn't suit him at all. It's so obvious that he's teaming up with all these urban names because urban's made a big comeback and he's desperate for a hit. He was never this focused on urban artists before.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't joking when he made that "congratulations but f**k you" tweet to Ed Sheeran when he got all those songs in the top 20. Calvin is all about hit-making and he must be really bummed out that he can't get to #1 anymore, in the UK anyway. His last #1 here was Blame back in 2014, which is a lifetime by his standards. Seeing as Ed's achievements already got Katy's back up too, it looks like the rumours that they could be collabing could come true (and that would annoy Taylor as well!)

He said that he is notΒ releasing albums anymore, just 10 tracks per year

Ok, I didn't know that. Any particular reason? Is it because he knows his albums don't sell so doesn't see the point in making them? Like a lot of DJs, people are only truly interested in his singles and the normal album tracks just don't get remembered, so I don't blame him for going this route. Maybe he hopes that by just releasing singles, he'll still pull in lots of money because his fans and the public will definitely buy them as there's no way of purchasing a bunch of songs on an album? After a while, fans do become complicit, they just wait until the album gets released and buy it, they don't bother buying singles anymore. But if you don't release albums, just songs, they might be more likely to buy. That's a pretty smart business plan, if you're a DJ.

"Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward," a source told the publication. "Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts.

"Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success."

Simply, it's 2017 and everyone is trying out different styles to put their music out on the market, that's all.Β

It's a good point. But it does benefit DJs better than regular artists. DJs make tunes for the charts, nothing more. Most of them just do it for the money. So, they have no desire to make truly great music that touches people's hearts, hence, making an album that comes from the heart and touring with it just doesn't pull in money. But at the same time, it's a good idea to make a song because you want to and release it when you feel like it. With albums, you have to push yourself to make at least 12 tracks that all work around a common theme in a year whether you want to or not. In a sense, it's much easier to just write a bunch of completely unconnected songs and "work as the muses move you." But again, this works for DJs, not for regular artists. It would just confuse the public, who wouldn't know what songs are going to be sung on tour and what the tour would even be called would be up in the air.
