....so you think eliminating meal programs and afterschool programs will make students perform better? He is proposing massive cuts to services a lot of low income families depend on. No one needs to wait to see that come to fruition to know it will directly harm low income working parents and their children.

No, he is cutting funds to feed hungry children, elderly and the homeless. What "doesn't work"? They are hungry, don't have access to enough food, so they are given food. How many studies do you need to know it is a good thing that hungry children get feed?

Research from Brown University shows that Meals on Wheels helps keep elderly people safely in their homes and out of crushingly expensive institutions, resulting in significant savings for most state governments. The latest study, from 2015, found that "seniors living alone who received meals showed statistically significant reductions in feelings of isolation" and "felt significantly less lonely, were less worried about staying in their homes," and "experienced fewer falls and hospitalizations."

He's not going to screw over school programs themselves, but he's going to screw over the students, parents, and educators. Also, some of those programs may be wasteful to you, as you may never have experienced what it truly is to be underprivileged and under-resourced in American society. You may not see the benefit, but the benefit is there and if it is taken away, it will just make education in America into an even greater crisis

On top of that, you would think that most of those students scoring below international averages would require education reform, one that didn't really occur during Obama's presidency because educators took it upon themselves to try and curb the situation. But now that education is being blighted by cuts because some things are considered "wasteful programs" and public schools are seen as absolute trash by this administration and the Secretary of Education; educators, students, and parents alike see the need to prevent their right to an education from being taken away in such a disgusting manner

Also, it is not basic common sense. Basic common sense would be to invest more into education, and reform curricula and the education system in this country. These cuts are just the easy way out, and are an attempt to divert money into things that already receive a gross amount of funding under the premise that it will make America money, when, in reality, it's just meant to make more money for those involved in making these decisions. I went to an after school when I was in middle school and it got me thru some hard times. At the time my father was abusing a medication and my home was often not a good atmosphere to be in. The after school program allowed me to stay at the school until 6 pm as opposed to 2:20 pm and they provided snacks, video games, not video games and we were taken outside. 

Our government grant was cut after I had spent 2 years in the program. Luckily my home has improved by that time but it was still heart breaking that I could no longer go. Now, since they couldnt get enough people to pay the outlandish fees, the program is closed in my school. And that's sad. 

With my life experience it truly breaks my heart that these programs which do a lot of good and provide safe and fun places for children to be after school will be cut so our president can build more bombs. It's not surprising tho, it's more profitable to blow up middle eastern kids then to take care of our own.

Welcome to Los Angeles: land of the expensive haha. I personally feel like in home daycares aren't regulated enough so I send my daughter to center-based daycare. Nothing against in home daycare providers but I always wonder how well those people are screened. Kids are expensive haha

All the Trump supporters on my Facebook newsfeed have gotten very, very quiet recently about some of his doings, but they will still stop and give you an earful about department stores not selling Ivanka's clothes.
