It's not worth the money anymore bc people stream for free. Also there aren't really new big artists who could bring something new with videos. They are only there for one or two hits nowadays

The every day gp person doesn't really care about videos anymore. They'd rather just stream the song and listen to it.

So streaming is turning music videos into a lost art, huh?

**** streaming. **** everything it represents...ย :saladga:

I was mainly discussing pop videos. Other genres vary quite a bit in their video treatments, but pop goes through "lazy phases" with videos.

I think music videos are probably not really worth the effort. It's not going to bring in the money.

Not to mention the general population doesn't care.

It would be nice for the videos to still be made, but as presents or fans. Like John Wayne.

I mean, many artists still care about videos, just don't expect it from mainstream artists.

Because Gaga took a hiatus???

Well even Gaga didn't serve videos until John Wayne, and even though that one's entertainingย it's still considerably messier and sloppier than her earlyย videos.

I suspect that is because her label didn't want to invest as much money on what is no longer as sure of a bet.ย

Budget cut, with people less buying records anymore and into streming more, record labels had to find way to keep the budget healthy for their company.

And as far as Western music scenes, they choose to cut budget for Music Videos. As it is not seen as something omportant anymore, even MTVย didn't play MVs anymore except at odd hours.ย Some labels even go as far as only releasing lyrics video only. So consider yourself lucky if your fave still doing actual MVsย

ย

This thing not happening within K-Pop and J-Pop scenes tho. They are still serving visual as ever. Even the Japanese indie scenes MVs are more visual than most big stars MVsย in the Westย

Basically all major artists still release some kind of music video. A reasonable video from a major artist can carry a major wallop in terms of boosting streaming numbers, which increasingly dominate Hot 100 rankings.

Some artists like to wait until after radio airplay has neared its peak, and then to drop the video suddenly to spur big gains in sales and streamingย and to thrust the song to a higher peak position than it otherwise would have had.ย

Some artists like to release the music video immediately upon announcing a new single in order to help generate early buzz and awareness, and to create another statistic that they can point to when they try to convince radio programmers to play their songs.ย

Anyways, all of the real money these days comes from touring. So, a music video is valuable if it fits into boosting touring revenues in some way. It could improve the artist's image. Or it could help generate radio hits that people will want to hear at concerts.ย

Also, in terms of artists still making kick-ass music videos, check out Adam Lambert's repertoire. And, Ariana Grande's team, at least, puts a ton of money and effort into her music videos:ย
