It would be stupid not to join them. Our democracy is all about compromise! Sticking to your own ideals without dialog is what creates this polarizing political situation like in the US.

Not at all. GroenLinks should not have to govern in a centre-right coalition with centre-right economic policy. I have no idea what kind of contribution GL could make in a coalition with VVD/CDA/D66 besides green policy, which is not worth it (though important!). Compromism for the sake of compromism is a mistake.

In my perception, the kind of D66-VVD policy is the biggest cause of populism in our country. PVV voters are mostly people who would've voted PvdA or SP had they not had such a misguided anger at muslims. It would be good if the govt focused on purchasing power rather than economic growth, and if they focused on higher wages rather than more working hours (with the same income overall, thus less €/hour for workers).

Good morning, I'm so happy with the results! No populism for our country :D

Sad that Pim Fortuyn isn't here to see the success of Wilders. Gay Legend lives on

Pim Fortuyn wouldn't agree with Wilders on 80% what he has to say.

I'm very curious to see what coalition you would come up with instead:sweat: Again, sticking up for your ideals is great for the voters, but in a country with so many political parties it's all about making compromises. It's either going into the coalition and balance out the VVD or going into the opposition and try to slow the coalition down. Parties like the PVV and SP never get into the coalition because they're not willing to compromise. Not being in the government and blaming others for all the mishaps is so much easier, but it takes guts to govern the country!

Sadly it's probably going to be VVD+D66+CDA+CU. I feel so bad for all people who aren't part of the top 10% hope they don't deregulate the financial sector and housing sector again. I also hope they don't slash benefits too much.

Going to be interesting to see what they get done on integration and how they're going to put their morals into practise.

I don't know if Rutte will risk a majority with only one seat this time. He ruled his first cabinet with a minority and his second cabinet also with a minority in the 'eerste kamer'. I'm not sure if he wants to risk that again.

Also, make sure to practice the national anthem because you're going to need it with Buma in power :emma:

I learned the national anthem in primary school. We always had to stand up when singing anything. Not even a Christian school or anything remotely close to Christianity, we just did :emma: I really don't get why it's an issue.

That coalition could definitely count on support from SGP. D66 would be practically useless in such a coalition tho, so maybe there's hope for quick new elections.

GL and VVD are opposed in every way imaginable. They agree on basically nothing. GL wants to add green taxes, VVD wants to tax less. GL wants to make tax evasion more difficult, VVD wants to keep some loopholes in place. GL wants progressive policy (drugs policy, euthanasia, intersex and trans rights, reforming judiciary, democratic reform, tackling racism/sexism), VVD(/CDA/CU) don't. GL wants lower income differences, VVD wants higher income differences. GL wants more money for healthcare and education, VVD wants less money for healthcare and education. GL wants less money for military, VVD wants more money for military. GL wants referendums, VVD doesn't. GL wants to keep shrinking HRA, VVD doesn't. GL wants to regulate the banking sector more strictly, VVD doesn't.

There's really nothing GL could get from a coalition with the VVD that would make both sides happy.

I think I'm going to become a member of the PvdA :laughga: I feel genuinely bad for them. Glad they're not going to support a centre-right coalition anymore. I hope they can do some good in opposition.

You know organizing elections is hella expensive, right? The people have spoken very clearly. A historic turn out shows people care. So now it's up to the politicians to form a coalition and work together.

Are you serious?! They instantly became of the smallest parties. They can't even support a coalition if they wanted to and their voice in the opposition will be minimal.

Not that expensive. A few tens of millions, €2 per Dutch person at most. If the government fails, they call new elections. Simple as that.

PvdA has enough seats to make a difference. Let's remember D66 got only 3 seats a few years ago and had to go as far as to deny the Armenian genocide to win over some (Turkish) voters. After that they became bigger again. Let's remember GL support was estimated at 2 seats only four years ago.

The PvdA is still the traditional left-wing party, and will be considered the most reasonable opposition party thanks to respected figures like Dijsselbloem. Together with the SP and GL they could form a big and influential block in parliament, an actual opposition.

I'm not going to underestimate the extent to which the PvdA's image has been tarnished, but on the other hand the PvdA feels trustworthy for a lot of people.

About the election result: I think Erdogan played a role too big, shameful. This is foreign interference in our elections and should be treated as such. I think that the VVD would be in the 25-28 range without the Turkish mess.

Anyways - it looks like GL is not joining the coalition. I'm happy with that. I'm calling it - D66 will decline 10 seats the next election. Literally no D66 item will make it through a D66-VVD-CDA-CU coalition. That's why I think the next government will be very unstable, and could likely result in new elections quite soon. There's still hope for a centre-left coalition for me, though.
