Which male popstar/band uses sex to sell the most?

There was recently a thread made here asking which female popstar uses sex to sell the most so I thought I'd do the male equivalent of it. We talk all the time about females using sex to sell but refrain from doing so for males. Perhaps this is because we think sexuality is a lot more natural and not as big a deal for men, so we don't consider it as much? Or because male sexuality is hardly ever as explicit as the female version, which makes it not as bad? Whatever the reason, there's no doubt that we don't focus on it as much. So, let's change that. I've only listed the biggest names of the moment and note that I'm talking about popstars, not rappers or RnB artists because those genres embody sexuality differently, more openly and don't rely on innocence to sell while doing inappropriate things, unlike pop music. Pop music sells sex whilst aiming their work at the young and trying to be radio-friendly, which I think makes it a bigger deal, hence, I'm focusing on just pop music. It was sometimes hard to judge between what separates pop from RnB but I think I did it ok. Also, remember that with men, sexuality is packaged differently. They sometimes sell it as romance more than sex but it still counts because the idea of songs like this is still to seduce the female listener (and let's not forget that plenty of guys play the role of the sweet romantic guy just to get in a girl's pants).

It's hard to say exactly but my vote is for One Direction. Almost all their songs are directed at you, the female listener, saying that you're the best they've ever had. I've listened to all their albums and I don't think there's any songs where they criticised a girl even the slightest bit or talked about a bad experience with a girl, it's nothing but pure adoration. Even Justin Bieber has risked alienating his adoring fanbase by making a few tracks that spoke about a girl negatively. 1D have never risked that, positioning themselves as the constant good guys, always in their female fans good books. Thing is, they look so innocent and they never swear in their songs or say anything remotely explicit. "Tonight, let's get some and live while we're young" is as raunchy as it gets, yet they are unquestionably sex symbols to their young fanbase (and even some of their older fans too). I once heard someone say that 1D are more sexualised than any girl band and they're right. They are the epitome of how male singers can be sexualised more than any female, yet ironically not look or sound as if they are.

I agree with you, both 1D and Beiber's careers were undeniably fueled by the adoration and absolute idolization of younger girls. They present the dream boyfriend ideology and sell it, the same way some female singers sell sexy. 

I don't know if it's their own choice or their managements, but it is clear that the image they present is intended to sell.
