I agree, something has to be done, or at least they shouldn't accept streams from companies that show clear bias towards artists, ex spotify's dislike Gaga

Exactly this! They kinda discussed this point a little in the article, but streaming services can be biased and pretty much control the charts now thanks to streaming and that seems very unfair.

Yep it's not ok that a streaming service gets to decide who tops the charts, by making playlists

There should be separate charts for non-streaming and streaming one, and they could both be official, kinda. Just stop this madness pls

When you think about it, streaming greatly skews and controls the charts now. When streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are controlling what their users stream, they're almost controlling the charts and making it unfair for other artists

This is why we shouldn't worry so much about the charts. Gaga is doing fine. And tbh, years down the road more people will remember Gaga than Sheeran.

Streaming should definitely amount to something, but the fact that it outweighs hard sales when determining chart rankings is just so skewed and wrong. Glad someone with a platform is discussing it, he makes several good points.

I agree, I'm not saying do away with streaming but it needs to have a lesser presence on the charts compared to sales, downloads, radio, etc.

We're complaining because the music that tops the charts is NOT good music, it's just catchy music without meaning.

looking at the times when only sales were taken into account, there was tons of crap at #1... if streaming wasn't taken into account, artists who now have great streaming numbers would just find the way to get ahead on radio, on itunes etc.

The rules change, but the reality stays the same.... people buy/stream/download/listen to what they like, good or bad

And just a few months ago, when radio wasn't playing Gaga people here were complaining about the radio having too much power.... now with MR getting great radio updates, we're not longer complaining .... now it's the streaming.... then it will be something else...

Who here listens to streaming more than radio or your own downloads?

That's what I meant 100% if it came off otherwise.

All I listen to is streaming or the radio, but they need to adjust streaming's impact on the charts. People are hitting 1 billion streams on Spotify now, a couple years ago hitting 100 million streams was a big deal. Streaming has increased greatly, but the rules haven't changed

They just need to adjust the rules. It's just like how hitting 100 million on YouTube used to be huge but with the growth in use, now it's hitting 1 billion. The same has happened with spotify and they need to adjust the streaming impact on the charts to reflect that
