Yo GagaGaga 6,541
So I was listening to ARTPOP recently, as you do, and I caught on to the theme she uses throughout the whole album. Before I get into it A) This may seem really obvious, so I may just be really late to getting this B) This might not make any sense, and I'm just senile In ARTPOP I found that Gaga usually covers a single topic in 2 or more songs. She uses one song to show the nice glamorous side of things, and another track to show the dark side of the same topic. Here are some examples: The Fashion Industry: Donatella and Fashion! Fashion! its talking about the feeling she gets when she wears her clothes, and how magical the whole expirience is in Donatella, its both a tribute to Donatella Versace of course, but also looks at the darker side to Fashion. Basically every line in the song is satire from "I am so fab, check out I'm blond, I'm skinny, I'm rich and I'm a little bit of a b*tch" to "Walk down the runway but don't puke, its okay, you just had a salad today" its about how the fashion industry is full of elitist and self obsessed people, along with starving yourself to have a modeling career. Sex: G.U.Y, Sexxx Dreams, and Swine A lot of tracks in this album have references to Sex other than the tracks listed, like Aura and Venus, but I'll just focus on G.U.Y. and Sexxx Dreams since sex is the main topic in them. Sexxx Dreams talks about the temptation and thrill of Sex, and wanting to get with someone who she knows she shouldn't, and G.U.Y. is both about gaining the confidence and power in sex and a relationship. and then in Swine, as we all know, she sings about her expirience with Sexual Assault and how disgusted she is by him. It covers the dark side of Sex, and how repulsive it can be when its not wanted "I know you want me, you're just a pig inside a human body, squealer, squealer, squeal out, you're so disgusting" Drugs: Mary Jane Holland and Dope (I guess Jewels N' Drugs too but I don't want that negative energy in my thread thx xoxo Joan) As we all know Mary Jane Holland is about her alter ego who she uses to try to escape her fame, and other half of the meaning is just about getting high and how it liberates her. "When I ignite the flame and put you in my mouth, the grass eats up my insides and my brunette starts to sprout" Then of course in Dope it shows after the high is over and how drugs and her addiction wrecks her relationships and how low it makes her feel "My heart would break without you, might not awake without you, been hurting low from living high for so long" I don't know if that means anything or if everyone already knew this...but I just thought it was interesting how she showed both sides of these topics instead of just glamorizing it or discouraging it

Fernster7 7,922
I agree and I don't know if it was intentional but it is pretty interesting. Maybe there's more and we have not notice it yet. And if you want a hit thread maybe you should make one shading Joanne or the current Gaga like half of this site do. But I hope you're not that desperate for attention. Monsters never die. YeehawKylie 7,817
Thank you for looking into and elaborating Lady Gaga's best album. So many people overlook these themes and try to simplify the songs. The album is such a great cohesive work. I love it and love when it gets its rightful recognition. Radio Ga Ga 5,671
I definitely saw the dope/MJH part, but the others are pretty interesting I guess there's also G.U.Y and Venus: G.U.Y is a good song, and Venus is not Spoiler Just kidding
TimisaMonster 31,073
She even made whole album themes based on that... The Fame and The Fame Monster Gaga loves duality...it's a theme she loves to play with seeing as there's a good and bad to everything in life... Even BTW with the theme of living between fantasy and reality at all times... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!
