Do you guys think Lorde's Melodrama era is going to overshadow the KP4 era? Lorde and Katy are the only two major mainstream female brands that will be in direct competition with each other so far (direct meaning, albums that are released within months of each other).

I've enjoyed both lead singles, each in their own way. At this point it seems like the initial reaction to "Green Light" is better than "Chained to the Rhythm". Whose album will sell better?

They both released around the same time in 2013, (Lorde in September/Katy in October). Lorde's Pure Heroine has sold over 1.5 million (that was the most recent report a while back) and Katy's Prism has sold 1.7 million copies (up to date) in the US.

And this isn't woman against woman, I'm looking at this as brand against brand.

No it wont, Katy came back with a huge streaming hit and easily will overshadow Melodrama :classy:

Depends on what parameter you are looking at. Commercially - probably not. But Lorde in general is a much better and more authentic songwriter and singer than Katy (imo). Melodrama will most likely get more acclaim than KP4.

i feel like both will be disappointing after hearing CTTR and green light

it's been a long long time since i've been genuinely impressed by a pop album

Lorde's era will get more acclaim and feel bigger overall. Lorde is still a relatively new artist so more people are going to be checking for it.

CTTR has had a lukewarm reaction, and there is no hype for the album.

I hope Lorde gets the recognition she deserves

I'm not even a bitter Gaga stan

Katy doesn't stand a chance.

Even if Katy does outperform commercially, Lorde will be the one to get acclaim and Grammys.

Add to that that Lorde is in NO WAY overexposed, she has that going for her, whereas we all expect Katy to release an album every year or two.

Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.

We don't know when Katy's releasing her album tho.

Green Light will probably be bigger than CTTR but the follow up singles may not be as successful as Katy's.

Hmm Lorde's album is one of the most anticipated records of the year so it will get a lot of attention. Katy is just doing the same thing over and over and she will get attention as well but probably not as much since it's her 4th album.

Lorde is releasing her 2nd album, the one after her Grammy wins, she has been gone for a couple of years and she's coming back with a different sound, something that is going to get noticed.

Katy is probably releasing a single with the Chainsmokers or some of the other featured artists on her album so that also is going to make her music play on the radio, but I can see Lorde getting way more critical acclaim.

You are looking at woman against woman tho. Ed Sheeran just released his album and is in competition against them too, why aren't you talking about him?

I mean it as, directly against women. I'm not looking at it as Ella v. Katy Hudson, i'm looking at them as brands. So like Pepsi v. Coke.

Yes i did choose two women, but i'm not looking at it AS women.

Their brand includes the whole team that works to make then Lord and Katy Perry. (not Elle and Katy Hudson)

KP is much bigger worldwide so no. I don't think Lorde can tour like KP. I love Lorde but fact is fact. Just compare their net worth, you know who has more power.
