Please stay on topic. If you guys want to discuss whatever opinions you have about Iggy or her fans as people then open a thread for it and present your case in a respectful and constructive way. If you don't like Iggy, don't enter a thread about her new release just to post flamebait and insults :emma:

Macklemore got humiliated from every hip hop station talking **** about him to the ESPY awards when Drake called him out with his "Real talent doesn't always win championships, like real music doesn't always win Grammys," line as a huge photo of Macklemore holding his Grammys appeared on a screen behind him

drake.jpg

At least Macklemore did walks for BLM though. At least the dude acknowledges his privileges, at least the dude admits his whiteness contributes to his success, at least the dude isn't pretending to be black or rapping/talking racist ****.

Iggy puts on a slave accent, gets on stage and acts like the most ghetto and ignorant representation of black culture, describes herself as a runaway slave master, contributes basic rhyming schemes with clichéd topics and metaphors with her music and then gets on stage and can't actually f*cking rap her own songs...

Not to mention her tweets like “Just saw 5 Black men get arrested out the front of popeyes. #damn #stereotypes” or “Owww studio. Me chief. You Indian. I speak…You listen.”

Iggy doesn't get heat for being a white female rapper, she gets heat for being a racist, white woman who appropriates black culture, represents herself as ****ing parody of black women and raps worse than any black female rapper I've heard in my life.

If you think she gets it worse than some white male rappers - it's because she refuses to acknowledge her privilege, lacks remarkable talent as a rapper and acts like a racist buffoon.

There are some white, female rappers that I **** with - but they are authentic, talented and don't spew racist ****

It genuinely pisses me off that so many white people write off Iggy's backlash as simply a bandwagon of hate without actually addressing the criticisms aimed at her.

Like, I could go even further and talk about how strange it is that a white woman with typically black features (surgically enhanced or otherwise) like big lips

a big booty

And black hair

gets popular by appealing to white folk while 'rapping' in a southern black accent and adopting the mannerisms and language of a stereotypical hood black woman....

But that would go beyond convincing people of her racism and go toward confronting them on their own... implicit biases....

White people hate that.

It's just funny though - a blonde haired white woman gets famous for making black music for white audiences, with clichéd rap themes, acting like she is a ghetto black woman, with black physical features, rocking black hair and people act shocked that black people are offended.

She is a walking, talking parody of a black woman, impersonating the most vapid 'ratchet' representation of a black woman. To me it's like modern day, socially acceptable, black face #SorryNotSorry

OMG. OMG. Idk what to say. Came here to say I liked the song but came in to this slander fest. Why all the animosity?

It doesn't sound interesting to me. But regardless of that i don't think people are willing to give her another chance.

You don't understand what slander is.

Are you pretending she didn't call herself a runaway slave master? Are you pretending she doesn't rap/talk in a fake southern black accent? Are you pretending that she doesn't have tweets like “Just saw 5 Black men get arrested out the front of popeyes. #damn #stereotypes” or “Owww studio. Me chief. You Indian. I speak…You listen.” ?

Don't be an apologist sis

God I hate to get involved but she's from Australia, I don't think she even realizes half of what you mentioned. She's ignorant in the subject so instead of trying to destroy her, try to educate her. And I know for a fact she at least apologized about the runaway comment. The torch and pitch fork mob mentality of the internet is low key unbearable. Not every thing done wrong is as cut and dry as saying it's directly racist or evil. That's all I'm saying on this. Just breathe. She enjoys the music she makes and music is for everyone.

I don't think she is aware of all of it but that doesn't make her less problematic! It doesn't make it any more frustrating to see a racist culture prop up a modern day minstrel show!

Everything about the woman is problematic, racist and offensive and you want me to just sit back and go 'Ohh look at this white woman speaking like a southern black woman, caricaturing black women, making constant racist comments, making clichèd black music and acting like the most ignorant black woman... maybe I should just whisper to her that maybe her entire act is totally offensive! I mean she has constantly ignored and deflected such criticism, but we can't get all upset and angry at her in the meantime! We should just leave her alone and let her continue on with her minstrel show!"

my favorite thing is the fact that you seriously think a big ass is 'black culture' :rip: you're literally stereotyping black people to have big asses in order to try and push your agenda in a thread that isn't even about race issues. if you're so bothered by a bitch who hasn't been relevant since 2014 then make a thread and keep it contained there.

I didn't say that :rip: way to miss the point :smh:

I called big butts and lips 'black features' not 'culture'. I'm talking about historical depictions and fascinations with black bodies from Saartjie Baartman who, among other black women, was exhibited in freak show exhibitions because of her big butt to the Beyonce's, Rihanna's and Nicki Minaj's of today.

This isn't even a point against Iggy, it's a point that marketers and consumers propped up a woman with a typically black body, with typically black features to perform as a caricature of a black woman by adopting a fake black accent, appropriating black music and performing as a representation of black women.

It's hard talking with white gays that are so oblivious to black history and current racial politics. It's hard to know were to even start.

Can I also just say that you didn't even disagree that Iggy is problematic. You just excused her racism and problematic representations of black culture in order to avoid taking responsibility.

You are supporting a modern day minstrel, an offensive representation of black culture. You admit that her accent is offensive, her caricature of black women is offensive, her racist statements are offensive - but as a consumer you like this entertainment so you are okay with letting all of this slide and supporting this minstrel show.
