3/14 Top 40 Radio Adds for USA Mediabase

LADY GAGA    Million Reasons

Do we think this is good considering how many stations have already added it? Also, do we have a count of how many stations in total have added it?

Yeah it's good. She's basically done with adds on HAC/POP, all the main stations have added.

Yup. I want every pop era so far to have a Top 5 Hot 100 hit and a Top 10 Pop radio hit.

Top ten Pop for MR is going to happen without a doubt. I want the same for the next single too.

Potentially- What single do you want to be next?

I am going to say this clear because I have studied music legends/icons and what makes them and Gaga is not a music icon/legend yet. To be music legend/icon you need to have hits for at least 30 years (Madonna, MJ, U2, Bruce Springsteen/Paul McCartney). You need to sell out world tours for over 30 years like the ones listed above. and you need to continue to sell albums like the ones I listed above. If in 30 years Gaga can not get a hit, sell albums, or sell out arenas/stadiums, she will not be a legend. Being successful and having an impact for 10 years does not make you a music legend, being successful and having an impact for 30 years does.

This is very off topic but I think being a legend is not necessarily related to having commercial success for a long period of time, that's called longevity, and while many legends have longevity, having it is not necessary to be one.

Being a legend has to do with having undeniable impact that can be felt decades after their peak, even if their commercial success only lasted for 5 years, they can't sell records, can't seem to book a stage and are completely broke, the mark they left on music is what people will remember.

While on the other hand you can have longevity and be able to fill a stadium but that doesn't mean that anything you did in your 30 year career really matters in the grander scheme.

For example Mariah, she may be in a bad moment now, she hasn't had a real hit in a decade, she struggles to sell tickets, and younger people don't respect her but the feats she achieved in the nineties, the immense impact she had, setting the blueprint (every girl with a voice is the new Mariah now), popularizing the pop/hip hop mixture, having one of the most popular Christmas songs in the planet is what will put her name in history, and even if people don't remember her the changes she made to popular music will still be felt.

So yeah, for us to know if Gaga will become a legend we'll have to wait, but that will not necessarily be defined by her selling power in 20 years but by whether anything she has done and will do will have some impact on music for newer generations.

OT: MR slays

And, on a sales note, re-entering Top 25 with 60M AI is a really good spot again. Better ratio than most radio hits right now. Happy for her.

I know you're not asking me, but I'll chime in anyway ;-) I'm torn between the single I want and the one that I think will do better (Joanne versus DIC) 😩

I want DIC in my bed and on my radio, but honestly I don't really care what single is next as long as she gets behind it like she did with MR. I'm still upset she didn't stand behind PI.

Yeah- her promo for MR was the best she's ever done for a single in a really long time. Global (UK/VSFS/Japan even), a ton in US, commercials, a video (even if crappy), and perfect social media push. Rightfully so though, it's the best single potential on the album and she must've known "if this doesn't become a hit, theres no hits on this album."

All pop adds are from moderately sized stations around the 50s or so. Not huge, but not small either. Just closing the panel with some holdouts really.

I know everyone wants DIC so I won't cause a big debate around it, but I still stand behind A-YO as being a moderate hit (Top 20 on pop) and that being her only real radio potential left.
